In replacing stock headlights on certain trucks with new Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights, the onboard diagnostic system of the trucks do not read sufficient load resistance from the new lights and so the diagnostic system indicates that there is an issue with the lighting system and consequently limits the functionality of the lighting system. The present application seeks to provide a solution to this problem by creating a headlight adapter that integrates components for imitating the load resistance and switching functions of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) truck headlights (the “Headlight Adapter ”).

The controller controls the lighting device to cause the lighting device to alternately operate in a first emission mode to perform emission of the visible light, and in a second emission mode to stop emission of the visible light or reduce a quantity of the visible light. The controller controls the laser radar apparatus to interrupt the measurement of the distance while the lighting device is operating in the first emission mode, and executes the measurement of the distance while the lighting device is operating in the second emission mode.

The device has a release arm that engages the lightbulb pin. The device further includes a pivot point and a pull attached to the release arm. When the release arm secures the lightbulb pin to the base, the device is in the locked position. When the pull engages the release arm to put the device in the unlocked position, the release arm pivots about the pivot point and disengages the lightbulb pin.

Spring 5 is monolithically formed with base 34 along with at least one reflector-locating structure on the base such as circumferentially extending exterior locating surface 44 and/or retaining keys 42. Base 34 and spring 5 may be molded of a plastics material. In other embodiments base 34 and spring 5 are made in one piece of sheet metal. The spring 5 formed unitary with the lamp base 34 meets regulatory requirements and avoids a risk of dislodgement of a conventional separate piece-part metal spring which could cause an electrical short when the lamp is installed in the field. The lamp capsule 32 is suitably an H13-style lamp.
