A countertop oven includes a housing having a rear panel, an upper panel, a bottom panel, a first side panel, an opposing second side panel and an open front end, together defining a cooking cavity therebetween. The cooking cavity is accessible via the open front end of the housing. At least one heating element within the housing selectively heats the cooking cavity. A door is movably attached to the housing via at least one 4-bar linkage mechanism. The door is selectively movable between a closed position, wherein the open front end of the housing is covered by the door, and an open position, wherein the door is positioned generally atop the upper panel of the housing, thereby uncovering the open front end of the housing to access the cooking cavity.

The door assembly also includes an engagement device for securing the door panes together, a locking mechanism for locking the engagement device, and a controller communicatively coupled to the actuating device. The locking mechanism includes, at least, a locking member and an actuating device. Thus, the controller is configured to receive one or more safety conditions relating to the oven appliance and select whether to engage or disengage the actuating device based on whether the safety condition(s) correspond to the predetermined safety condition(s).

The inner glass pane (12) and the at least one further glass pane (14, 16) are arranged plane-parallel to each other. An intermediate space is formed between two adjacent glass panes (12, 14, 16). At least one slot (19) and/or channel (30) enclose or encloses at least partially the circumferential sides of the glass package (10) along a circumferential direction. The width and height of the inner glass pane (12) are bigger than the width and height, respectively, of the at least one further glass pane (14, 16) and of any further component of the glass package (10), wherein the widths and heights of the glass panes (12, 14, 16) relate to the large-area sides of said glass panes (12, 14, 16).
