The device can further include a controller outputting a driving electric signal after receiving a first electric signal output by the water flow sensor, and a reset electric signal after receiving a second electric signal output by the water flow sensor. The expansion tank can include an electric driving part arranged on a shell of the expansion tank, and a push plate on a driving end of the part, a controlled end of the electric driving part driving the push plate to move toward the expansion tank after receiving the driving electric signal or away from the expansion tank after receiving the reset electric signal.

The combined heating and hot-water boiler comprises: a main heat exchanger which heats heating water through heat exchange; a hot-water heat exchanger to which the heating water heated by the main heat exchanger is supplied, and which heats tap water into hot water through heat exchange with the heating water; and a control unit which controls the flow of the heating water having passed through the hot-water heat exchanger to control the formation of at least one of a first flow path for supplying, to an object to be heated, the heating water having passed through the hot-water heat exchanger, and a second flow path for supplying, to the main heat exchanger, the heating water having passed through the hot-water heat exchanger.

The present invention provides a method of operating a gas heater for water including the steps of: restricting a water flow to the gas heater; determining a first rate of a first gas heating for the restricted water flow; adjusting the gas heating to the restricted water flow; repeating the previous steps until a heated water has a temperature above a temperature threshold; removing the restriction to the water flow to increase the water flow; and determining a second rate of a second gas heating for the increased water flow. The present invention also provides a gas water heater which utilises such a method.

A gas powered water heater includes a storage tank, a main burner, a flame sensor assembly, and a controller communicatively coupled to the flame sensor assembly. The flame sensor assembly includes a probe positioned proximate the main burner to couple an electric current to the main burner through a flame on the main burner and not to couple an electric current to the main burner when the flame is not present on the main burner, and a detector that provides signals representative of the electric current provided through the probe. The controller is programmed to determine a length of time taken for a transition between a signal representative of no electric current and a signal representative of a steady state electric current, and determine, based at least in part on the determined length of time, a strength of the flame on the main burner.

The controller determines if the main gas valve is open after using the first pick method. When the controller determines the main gas valve is not open, the controller attempts to pick the main gas valve using a second pick method different than the first pick method.
