Load Based Hot Water Temperature Control
A hot water delivery system includes a water heater, a mixing valve that is coupled to the output of the water heater, and a plurality of loads that are coupled to the output of the mixing valve. A load set point temperature of each load that is representative of a maximum temperature of the hot water that is to be delivered to the respective load is set by a user. Responsive to detecting the occurrence of an event associated with a load of the plurality of loads, a controller of the water heater controls the mixing valve to adjust the temperature of the hot water from the water heater to the load set point temperature associated with the load, provided the load set point temperature of the load is different from a water heater set point temperature at which the water heater maintains the hot water therein.
DRY TANK DETECTION METHOD FOR A WATER HEATER APPLIANCE
A method for controlling a water heater appliance includes energizing the heating element for an energization period, such as less than two seconds. During the energization period, the appliance controller measures the electrical current passing through the heating element. The measured electrical current and a base signal are passed through a correlation filter to determine a correlation value. The base signal may correspond to the electrical current passing through the heating element when the tank is full or when the tank is empty, and the correlation value may be used to determine to which base signal the measured electrical current more closely correlates. In this manner, the correlation value is used to determine whether the heating element is submerged in water.
Hot water tank
A water heater includes a water tank and a flow-through heating element. The water tank contains heated water. The flow-through heating element is located in the lower portion of the water tank and heats water as water is passed through an interior channel of the heating element. In another configuration, the water heater further includes a recirculation line and the heating element further includes an input end external of the water tank to receive water to be heated and an output end to output heated water into the water tank. The recirculation line transports water from the water tank to the input end of the heating element that is external of the water tank.
Electric tankless water heater
A tankless water heater system including a tankless water heater assembly and a mixing valve assembly enclosed within a system housing. The mixing valve assembly is formed by a one piece mixing valve housing that defines an unheated water path proceeding to the heater assembly and a heated water path proceeding from a hot water inlet passageway to a mixed water outlet passageway. Water flow through the mixed water passageway is controlled by mixing valve that includes a shuttle operably coupled to a thermostatic motor.
Water heater appliance and methods of operation
A water heater appliance, including methods of operation, is provided herein. The water heater appliance may include a casing, a tank, an inlet conduit, an electric heating system, and a controller coupled to an auxiliary power generator. The tank may be disposed within the casing and define an inlet and an outlet. The inlet conduit may be mounted to the tank at the inlet of the tank. The controller may be operably coupled to the electric heating system and configured to initiate a heating cycle. The heating cycle may include identifying a daily peak auxiliary power period, determining a contemporary voltage reading at the water heater appliance, predicting an occurrence of the daily peak auxiliary power period from the auxiliary power generator, and heating water within the water heater at the predicted occurrence of the daily peak auxiliary power period.
Water consuming appliance and a method for operating the same
A system and method of operating a water supply system with one or more water consuming appliances is provided. The water supply system includes a hot water heater for supplying a flow of heated water through a supply conduit to at least one water consuming appliance. The water consuming appliance receives the flow of heated water and provides an indication of a fault condition if excessive water accumulates in the appliance, which might indicate a malfunction with a drain pump or a water supply valve. A safety shutoff valve is positioned on the supply conduit and is in operative communication with the water consuming appliance. The safety shutoff valve is configured for stopping the flow of heated water when it receives the indication of the fault condition.
HEATING AND HOT-WATER SUPPLY APPARATUS
A heating and hot-water supply apparatus performs a heating operation by heating a heating medium with a heater and circulating the heating medium through a heating terminal, a hot-water supply operation by circulating the common heating medium through a hot-water supply heat exchanger, heating service water through heat exchange with the heating medium, and supplying hot water, and a simultaneous operation of the heating operation and the hot-water supply operation, and controls a distribution ratio of the heating medium between the heating terminal and the hot-water supply heat exchanger. The apparatus determines whether the heating terminal proceeding in the heating operation is a suspendible terminal to suspend the heating operation or an unsuspendible terminal not to suspend the heating operation in response to a request for the hot-water supply operation.
Water heater and method of operating a water heater
A water heater including a tank, first and second heating elements, first and second temperature sensors, a communication module, and a controller. The controller is operable to determine a first temperature value related to a first temperature sensed by the first temperature sensor, determine a second temperature value related to a second temperature sensed by the second temperature sensor, and receive a command from the external controller. When the received command is a first command, the controller control current to the first heating element based on the first temperature value traversing a first set point, and controls current to the second heating element based on the second temperature value traversing a second set point. When the received command is a second command, the controller controls current only to the first heating element and not the second heating element, the control being based on the first temperature value.
Water Heating System and Valving for These
The disclosed technology relates to a solar water heating system including a tank configured to store heat transfer fluid, a solar collector in fluid communication with the tank, and a pump system in fluid communication with the tank and the solar collector. The pump system can include a first pump, a second pump, and a valve assembly. The valve assembly can direct the heat transfer fluid from an outlet of the first pump to the solar collector when the first pump is operating and can direct the heat transfer fluid from an outlet of the second pump to the solar collector when the second pump is operating. The first pump and the second pump can transfer the heat transfer fluid from the solar collector back to the tank when the first pump and the second pump are not operating.
Pilot light control for an appliance
A device for igniting a pilot light for a heating appliance or for re-igniting the pilot. The device may monitor a thermopile at the pilot to determine if the pilot is lit and, if not, attempt to relight it. If the device fails to relight the pilot, it may continue attempting to relight the pilot until the stored energy is nearly depleted. Before the stored energy is depleted, the device may send a message indicating a failure to relight. The last of stored energy may alert a homeowner with an alarm that the appliance control has shut down and the pilot could not be relit. If the amount of energy stored drops below a specified threshold and the device successfully lights the pilot, it may restore the control to normal operation, and replenish the stored energy. The device may do a standing pilot or an intermittent pilot.
