Managing Make-Up Gas Composition Variation for a High Pressure Expander Process
20200064061 · 2020-02-27 ·

A method for liquefying a feed gas stream. A refrigerant stream is cooled and expanded to produce an expanded, cooled refrigerant stream. Part or all of the expanded, cooled refrigerant stream is mixed with a make-up refrigerant stream in a separator, thereby condensing heavy hydrocarbon components from the make-up refrigerant stream and forming a gaseous expanded, cooled refrigerant stream. The gaseous expanded, cooled refrigerant stream passes through a heat exchanger zone to form a warm refrigerant stream. The feed gas stream is passed through the heat exchanger zone to cool at least part of the feed gas stream by indirect heat exchange with the expanded, cooled refrigerant stream, thereby forming a liquefied gas stream. The warm refrigerant stream is compressed to produce the compressed refrigerant stream.

Primary Loop Start-Up Method for a High Pressure Expander Process

A method is disclosed for start-up of a system for liquefying a feed gas stream comprising natural gas. The system has a feed gas compression and expansion loop, and a refrigerant system comprising a primary cooling loop and a sub-cooling loop. The feed gas compression and expansion loop is started up. The refrigerant system is pressurized. Circulation in the primary cooling loop is started and established. Circulation in the sub-cooling loop is started and established. A flow rate of the feed gas stream and circulation rates of the primary cooling loop and the sub-cooling loop are ramped up.

Temperature controlled method to liquefy gas and a production plant using the method

A method for liquefying gas involving pre-treating the gas stream in a pre-treater to remove impurities, and then passing the gas stream through a first flow path of a first heat exchanger to lower a temperature of the gas stream. The gas stream is then passed through the gas expansion turbine to lower a pressure of the gas stream and further decrease the temperature of the gas stream. The gas stream is then passed into a primary separator to separate the gas stream into a liquid stream and a cold gas stream. The liquid stream is collected. Selected quantities of the cold gas stream are passed through a second flow path of the first heat exchanger whereby a heat exchange takes place to cool the gas stream flowing through the first flow path to maintain the temperature of the gas stream entering the gas expansion turbine at a temperature which promotes the production of liquids.

GAS LIQUEFACTION COLUMN
20190390900 · 2019-12-26 ·

An apparatus and process for the compression, expansion, evaporation, and liquefaction of gases or gaseous mixtures consisting of a gas liquefaction column comprising successive chambers made of balloons resembling those used in pneumatic suspensions, and double-piston bases in between the upper and lower end of each chamber. Some of the double-piston bases are fixed while others in between are mobile. The group of mobile double-piston bases is activated in a linear to-and-fro vertical stroke while the other group of double-piston bases remains stationary. This results in consecutive suction and compression of the chambers, creating a Joule-Thomson effect at each of them. This results in the cooling and liquefaction of the gas or gaseous mixture. The apparatus also comprises humidity extractors, and different types of valves and piping.

LNG PROCESS USING FEEDSTOCK AS PRIMARY REFRIGERANT
20240102729 · 2024-03-28 ·

Described is a process for production of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) that optimises an offset turbo expansion chilling curve attributed to the refrigerant properties inherent to the natural gas feedstock for the majority of chilling, followed by a smaller externally sourced heat exchange to make the final phase transition to LNG. This process reduces the complexity and high capital costs associated with traditional LNG systems.

A system for storing or producing electricity, which allows stabilization of a power network under conditions of excess availability of electricity or lack thereof and for producing liquefied natural gas is provided.

LIQUEFACTION SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING TURBINE INLET TEMPERATURE OF LIQUEFACTION SYSTEM

A liquefaction system comprises: a temperature setting unit for setting an inlet gas temperature on entry to a cold turbine; a control valve for controlling an amount of gas fed to the cold turbine, correspondingly with an inlet gas temperature measured by the temperature measuring unit; and a control unit which compares the inlet gas temperature measured by the temperature measuring unit with a warning temperature set value plus a margin, and sets a first operating state when the inlet gas temperature is equal to or less than the warning temperature set value plus the margin and also sets an emergency stoppage temperature set value at the warning temperature set value plus the margin, and sets a second operating state when the inlet gas temperature is greater than the warning temperature set value plus the margin, the control unit performing control in response to the second operating state to make a degree of opening of the control valve greater than a degree of opening during the first operating state in order to lower an inlet pressure of the cold turbine, and performing control in response to the first operating state to make the degree of opening of the control valve smaller than the degree of opening during the second operating state in order to raise the inlet pressure of the cold turbine.

Natural gas liquefaction by a high pressure expansion process

A method and system for liquefying a methane-rich high-pressure feed gas stream using a first heat exchanger zone and a second heat exchanger zone. The feed gas stream is mixed with a refrigerant stream to form a second gas stream, which is compressed, cooled, and directed to a second heat exchanger zone to be additionally cooled below ambient temperature. It is then expanded to a pressure less than 2,000 psia and no greater than the pressure to which the second gas stream was compressed, and then separated into a first expanded refrigerant stream and a chilled gas stream. The first expanded refrigerant stream is expanded and then passed through the first heat exchanger zone such that it has a temperature that is cooler, by at least 5 F., than the highest fluid temperature within the first heat exchanger zone.
