Method of producing a hydrogen-enriched product and recovering CO.SUB.2 .in a hydrogen production process unit

A process and apparatus for producing a hydrogen-enriched product and recovering CO.sub.2 from an effluent stream from a hydrogen production process unit are described. The process utilizes a CO.sub.2 recovery system integrated with a PSA system that produces at least two product streams to recover additional hydrogen and CO.sub.2 from the tail gas stream of a hydrogen PSA unit in the hydrogen production process.

Method of recovering a hydrogen enriched product and CO2 in a hydrogen production unit

A process and apparatus for producing a hydrogen-enriched product and recovering CO.sub.2 from an effluent stream from a hydrogen production unit are described. The effluent from the hydrogen production unit, which comprises a mixture of gases comprising hydrogen, carbon dioxide, water, and at least one of methane, carbon monoxide, nitrogen, and argon, is sent to a PSA system that produces at least two product streams for separation. The PSA system that produces at least two product streams separates the gas mixture into a high-pressure hydrogen stream enriched in hydrogen, optionally a second gas stream containing the majority of the impurities, and a low-pressure tail gas stream enriched in CO.sub.2 and some impurities. The CO.sub.2-rich tail gas stream is compressed and sent to a CO.sub.2 recovery unit, where a CO.sub.2-enriched stream is recovered. The CO.sub.2-depleted overhead gas stream is recycled to the PSA system that produces at least two product streams.

One or more specific embodiments disclosed herein includes a method for separating hydrogen from an olefin hydrocarbon rich compressed effluent vapor stream, employing a single heat exchanger, multiple gas-liquid separators, multiple expander/compressor sets, and a rectifier attached to a liquid product drum.

Processes for recovering LPG from a reforming-zone effluent

Embodiments of apparatuses and methods for reforming of hydrocarbons including recovery of products are provided. In one example, a method comprises separating a reforming-zone effluent into a net gas phase stream and a liquid phase hydrocarbon stream. The net gas phase stream is separated for forming an H.sub.2-rich stream and a first liquid phase hydrocarbon stream. The H.sub.2-rich stream may be contacted with an adsorbent to form an H.sub.2-ultra rich stream and a gas stream. C.sub.3/C.sub.4 hydrocarbons are absorbed from the gas stream with the liquid phase hydrocarbon stream. The gas stream may be contacted with an H.sub.2/hydrocarbon separation membrane to separate the PSA tail gas stream and form an H.sub.2-rich permeate stream and an H.sub.2 depleted non-permeate residue stream.

A process for recovering hydrogen from dehydrogenation reactor effluent is disclosed. A feed stream comprising hydrocarbons and hydrogen to a dehydrogenation reactor maintained at dehydrogenation conditions to provide a dehydrogenation reactor effluent. The dehydrogenation reactor effluent is passed to a cold box separation unit to provide a liquid hydrocarbon product stream and a recycle hydrogen stream. A return portion of the recycle hydrogen stream is passed to the reactor effluent compressor. The subject matter disclosed improved process and apparatus which enables the paraffin dehydrogenation reactor to run at reduced H.sub.2/HC ratio without requiring an investment in a resized compressor or resized turboexpanders or separators in the cold box.

ENHANCED HYDROGEN RECOVERY UTILIZING GAS SEPARATION MEMBRANES INTEGRATED WITH PRESSURE SWING ADSORPTION UNIT AND/OR CRYOGENIC SEPARATION SYSTEM

Processes and systems for recovering hydrogen may include feeding a gas stream, comprising hydrogen and additional gases, to a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) system and feeding a membrane permeate stream comprising hydrogen to the PSA system. In the PSA system, a portion of the hydrogen may be separated from the additional gases to recover a hydrogen product stream and a PSA tail gas stream comprising unseparated hydrogen and the additional gases. The PSA tail gas stream may be fed to a membrane separation unit for separating hydrogen from the additional gases and to recover (i) the membrane permeate stream comprising hydrogen fed to the PSA system and (ii) a membrane tail gas stream comprising the additional gases. Embodiments herein may additionally include a refrigeration system for partially condensing one or both of the feed gas stream and the PSA tail gas stream, enhancing the efficiency of the membrane separation unit.

ETHANE SEPARATION WITH CRYOGENIC HEAT EXCHANGER

A process and apparatus integrate a deethanizer column with a cryogenic heat exchanger by reboiling the deethanizer column with a refrigerant stream and/or cooling a deethanizer overhead line in the cryogenic heat exchanger. A single stage separator and a single deethanizer column may be used to obtain high purity hydrogen in the net gas stream and an ethane rich off-gas stream, whereas conventionally a dual stage separator and two deethanizer columns were necessary for equivalent purity, respectively.

PROPANE SEPARATION WITH COMPRESSOR REBOILER

A process and apparatus reboil a propylene splitter bottoms by heat exchange and/or a deethanizer bottoms stream with a compressed propylene splitter overhead stream. Use of single splitter compressor and operation of the propane-propylene splitter column at lower pressure are enabled, whereas conventionally two splitter compressors and higher splitter pressure were necessary to provide a propylene product stream and a propane recycle stream of equivalent quality.
