Heat exchanger
A heat exchanger for transferring thermal energy between a first working fluid and a second working fluid. The heat exchanger has an outer shell that has a first port, a second port, a third port, and a fourth port. A set of tubes each extend within the outer shell and between the first and second ports, such that the first working fluid can flow in parallel through the tubes. A plenum space extends within the outer shell and between the third and fourth ports, and surrounding the tubes. The second working fluid is to flow through the plenum space. The heat exchanger has a central core region, a first transition region that extends between the first port and the central core region, and a second transition region that extends between the second port and the central core region.
Apparatus and method for separation of components with different volatility in a mixed fluid
The invention concerns an apparatus (10) for separation of components with different volatility in a mixed fluid, said apparatus (10) comprising: a first heat exchanging unit (100) provided with first and second flow path structures (131, 132) forming separate flow paths for a first and a second fluid flow through the first heat-exchanging unit (100); an inlet (118) for feeding the mixed fluid to the apparatus (10); an inlet (119) for feeding steam to the apparatus (10); an arrangement for feeding a cooling medium through the apparatus (10), wherein said arrangement comprises at least one cooling medium inlet (105, 106, 107, 108). The invention is characterized in that the apparatus (10) comprises a second heat-exchanging unit (200) provided with third and fourth flow path structures (233, 234) forming separate flow paths for a first and a second fluid flow through the second heat-exchanging unit (200), wherein the cooling medium arrangement comprises at least one cooling medium inlet (205, 206, 207, 208) arranged in fluid communication with the fourth flow path structure (234) and wherein the first and third flow path structures (131, 233) are arranged in fluid communication with each other.
Heat exchanger tubes
A tube for a thermal transfer device can include a wall having a length and having an inner surface and an outer surface, wherein the inner surface forms a cavity. The tube can also include at least one first dimple pressed into the wall toward the cavity at a first location along the length of the wall, where the inner surface of the wall at the at least one first dimple is separated from itself by a first distance. The tube can further include at least one second dimple pressed into the wall toward the cavity at a second location along the length of the wall, where the inner surface of the wall at the at least one second dimple is separated from itself by a second distance. The cavity can be configured to receive a fluid that flows continuously along a length of the at least one wall.
Temperature control of a pumped gas flow
A heat exchanger for changing a temperature of a pumped gas flow and a pump comprising the heat exchanger is disclosed. The heat exchanger comprises: at least one tube configured to contain a flow of fluid; said at least one tube being at least partially embedded within a block of material; wherein said heat exchanger comprises mounting means configured to mount said heat exchanger adjacent to a gas port of a pump such that a least a portion of said heat exchanger extends into a path for gas flow flowing through said gas port; wherein the mounting means comprises a flange, the flange being configured to connect with the gas port of the pump, the block being mounted to the flange such that the block extends towards the rotor of the pump when the flange is connected with the gas port of the pump.
BLOCK STYLE HEAT EXCHANGER FOR HEAT PIPE REACTOR
A block style heat exchanger for a heat pipe reactor having a plurality of heat pipes extending from a reactor core. The heat exchanger includes a plurality of primary channels, each for receiving heat transferred from the core via one of the heat pipes. The primary channels extending within a block of one or more materials. The heat exchanger also includes a plurality of secondary channels defined within the block for transmitting a flow of the secondary heat transfer medium through the heat exchanger from an inlet to an outlet. The block is formed from one or both of: a plurality of plates bonded together, with each plate defining at least a portion of one or more of the plurality of primary channels and/or the plurality of secondary channels, and/or a unitary piece of material formed from an additive manufacturing process.
CIRCULAR CROSSFLOW HEAT EXCHANGER
A heat exchange module, a heat exchanger and a method for additively manufacturing the heat exchanger are provided. The heat exchanger includes a plurality of stacked heat exchange modules defining a flow passageway. Each heat exchange module defining a substantially curved closed geometry defining a central axis that extends along the axial direction. Each heat exchange module includes a first heat exchanging fluid inlet, a first heat exchanging fluid outlet and a plurality of heat exchange tubes fluidly coupling the first heat exchanging fluid inlet and the first heat exchanging fluid outlet. The plurality of heat exchange tubes defining a plurality of first heat exchanging fluid flow passages of equal length and a plurality of second heat exchanging fluid flow passages of equal hydraulic diameter.
Exhaust assembly temperature regulation
An exhaust assembly includes an exhaust tube and a coolant passage. The exhaust tube is oriented about an axis and an exhaust gas is configured to flow through the exhaust tube in a direction away from an end of the exhaust tube. The coolant passage is oriented about the axis radially outward of the exhaust tube, the coolant passage having an inner shell and an outer shell. The end of the exhaust tube includes one or more holes permitting exhaust gas to flow around the end of the exhaust tube between an outer wall of the exhaust tube and the inner shell of the coolant passage to regulate a temperature of the inner shell of the coolant passage.
Baffles For Thermal Transfer Devices
A baffle for a thermal transfer device can include a body having a multiple first apertures that traverse therethrough, where each first aperture has a first outer perimeter that includes a first base shape and at least one first protrusion extending from the first base shape. Each of the first apertures is configured to receive a tube. The first base shape of each first aperture has a first shape and a first size that is configured to be substantially the same as the first shape and the first size of an end of a tube.
Baffles For Thermal Transfer Devices
A baffle for a fluid collection portion of a thermal transfer device can include a body having an inner perimeter, an outer perimeter, and an asymmetric feature, where the asymmetric feature is configured to create a pressure drop within the fluid collection portion of the thermal transfer device. The inner perimeter can be configured to be at least as large as an inner surface of a first wall that forms the fluid collection portion of the thermal transfer device. The outer perimeter can be configured to be no larger than an outer surface of a second wall that forms the fluid collection portion of the thermal transfer device.
Apparatus and method for rapidly cooling or heating the body temperature of a patient
An extracorporeal blood cooling or heating circuit includes an intravenous catheter for withdrawing a patient's blood coupled to a combined pump/heat exchanger device. One or more sensors are provided upstream and/or downstream of the pump/heat exchanger device for measuring pressure, temperature, fluid flow, blood oxygenation, and other parameters. A controller is operatively coupled to the pump/heat exchanger device and the one or more sensors to control the speed of the pump inside the pump/heat exchanger device and regulate the blood temperature by controlling the operation of the heat exchanger. The combined pump/heat exchanger device includes a housing having at least one inlet and at least one outlet, a pump portion defining a blood circuit inside the housing, and a heat exchanger portion contained within the housing for selectively heating or cooling the blood.
