METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR HOMING

A method of guiding a guidable vehicle to a target comprises: acquiring at least one position vector describing a position of the target and a position of the guidable vehicle; calculating a distance between the guidable vehicle and a virtual line passing through a predicted position of the target; controlling the guidable vehicle to reduce the calculated distance; repeating the acquisition of the at least one position vector, and automatically updating the virtual line, responsively to the repeated acquisition.

Electro-optical sighting systems and methods are provided. One example includes a optical transmitter configured to emit an infrared beam along an optical path toward a target, a beam director positioned in the optical path and having a plurality of optical elements configured to direct the infrared beam and to collect reflected infrared radiation from reflection of the beam from the target, a focal plane array detector configured to receive reflected infrared radiation from the beam director, an optical phased array (OPA) positioned in the optical path between the optical transmitter and the beam director, and a controller operatively coupled to the OPA and configured to direct the OPA to defocus the infrared beam to broaden a field of view of the optical transmitter for active illumination, and focus the infrared beam to narrow the field of view of the optical transmitter for range determination and/or target designation.

Optical detector and system therefor

There is provided in a first form, a detector. The detector includes a photosensitive detector element; and a reflecting surface disposed about and proximal to the photosensitive detector element, wherein the reflecting surface is configured to reflect radiation impinging on the reflecting surface onto the photosensitive detector element; and wherein the reflecting surface is further configured to determine a field of regard greater than a predetermined field of view.

Swarm navigation using follow the forward approach

The system and method of swarm navigation using a follow the forward approach. Using on-board sensors and communications links between members of a swarm, numerous targets can be engaged more quickly and precisely. In some cases, a designator is used to help a forward of the swarm navigate to a target using image-based navigation up until terminal guidance is used. A cascade of messages are projected back to a following round so that, each member of a swarm can determine a best target/round match and provide real-time, up-to-date information regarding targets' locations and each round's location, range to target, target selection, and the like.

Orthogonal interferometry artillery guidance and navigation

The system and method of projectile flight management using a combination of radio frequency orthogonal interferometry for the long range navigation and guidance of one or more projectiles and a short range navigation and guidance system to provide for more accurate targeting.

Dual mode semi-active laser seeker and imaging system

The system and method of a dual mode semi active laser seeker and imaging system using pulse detection and angle determination as applied to quad detectors to properly identify a correct designator spot. The angle performance is driven by the field of view of the imaging system. The imaging system resolution provides the required angle accuracy for guidance as cued by pulse detection apertures. The imaging system eliminates the need to designate until impact thus eliminating exposure to counter fire against the designator. The elimination of designation until impact also opens up the opportunity rapid engagement of multiple targets from a single designator.

The present invention relates to a training system for training of a forward controller. The training system utilises a pod housing that can be attached to a hardpoint under an aircraft wing. The pod is configured to receive communications from the forward controller on the ground (or in another aircraft) and communicate wirelessly with an HMD and/or electronic device in the cockpit of the aircraft. This allows cheaper, less expensive aircraft to be used for training purposes.

SAL seeker glint management

A guidance system for a projectile having a mid-body. The guidance system having a mid-body semi-active laser seeker. The seeker has an objective lens assembly and a sensor array that reads laser energy and transmits data to determine the direction of the laser energy. A glint management unit is connected to mid-body in such a manner that glint laser energy is prevented from passing to the objective lens assembly and sensor array so as to enhance determination of the location of the target.

Apparatus and method for remotely selecting the fuse mode of a laser guided munition

The fuse mode of a laser guided munition is remotely set and/or changed by encoding fuse mode information onto fuse mode designating light received by the light detector of the munition. Embodiments do not require hardware modification of existing munitions and/or control systems. The mode designating light can be the target designating laser light, and the fuse mode information can be encoded together with counter counter measure (CCM) information. Or the mode designating light source can be a separate laser or non-laser light source. Encoding of the fuse mode information can be by modulation and/or wavelength selection of the mode designating light. In embodiments, the fuse mode can be selected before and/or after launch of the munition.
