A sight support member of the pivot mount is moveable between an operative position, wherein an optical sighting device can be used to sight the firearm on a target, and an inoperative position, wherein the optical sighting device is positioned below, and vertically offset from, the operative position. Also disclosed is an optical sight mount that includes a sight support member slidably coupled to the base. The sight support member is moveable between an operative position, wherein an optical sighting device can be used to sight the firearm on a target, and an inoperative position, wherein the optical sighting device is positioned below, and vertically offset from, the operative position.

A light apparatus for firearms can pivot between a safety position and a shooting position. In the safety position, a light mounted to the firearm can point straight ahead at a target, while the firearm's barrel is pointed downward. In the shooting position, both the light and the barrel point in the same direction. In some examples, the light is supported by a gun mounting member that is fastened to the underside of the firearm, while the light is offset to one side of the barrel. In some examples, the light is connected to a foregrip, so the light and the foregrip can pivot together as a unit relative to the barrel. Some examples of the light apparatus include various devices for holding the light at the safety and/or shooting position.

A firearm illumination system that is selectively mounted to a firearm, includes an illumination device for emitting an illumination field. A mount housing incorporates a firearm coupling mechanism that is adapted for selectively coupling of the illumination device to a firearm. A swivel mechanism is coupled to the mount housing between the illumination device and the firearm coupling mechanism. The swivel mechanism defines an axis of rotation normal to the bore axis of the mounted firearm, for facilitating selective pivotal movement of an illumination axis of the illumination device above or parallel with, or below the bore axis of the firearm. In use, the illumination field is oriented within a search area by pivoting the illumination axis while orienting the firearm bore axis outside the search field. Upon threat identification, the firearm is brought to bear on it and the illumination axis is oriented parallel with the bore axis.

A pivot mount is provided for a secondary optical device which pivots between a stowed position where in the secondary optical device is positioned out of a line of sight of a user and a deployed position, which is aligned with an optical axis of a primary optical device, which allows through sighting of the secondary optic for enhancing operator effectiveness in a variety of conditions. In one aspect, a first pivot mount apparatus is attachable to a primary optical device for selectively positioning a secondary optical device in optical alignment with the primary optical device. In another aspect, a second pivot mount apparatus is attachable to the primary optical device for selectively positioning a tertiary optical device in optical alignment with the primary optical device.
