Microlattice Layers

A three-dimensional microlattice layer comprising a plurality of interconnected filaments extending along at least three different directions from a plurality of nodes. The microlattice layer may further comprise at least one material layer extending laterally between and interconnecting at least two or more nodes. The at least one material layer may be configured to transversely and rotationally constrain the nodes to increase the overall compressive strength and stiffness of the microlattice structure. The at least one material layer may comprise a single, continuous layer and/or a plurality of material layer segments. The microlattice layer may comprise a single, continuous layer or a plurality of microlattice layer segments. The microlattice layer may be stacked, the stacked microlattice layers may further comprise one or more material layers and/or one or more impact mitigation layers.

Embodiments of the present application includes methods and structures for Anti-Ballistic Shelters, including an anti-ballistic shelter having a frame comprising at least one support member, and one or more surfaces comprising a flexible high strength layered anti-ballistic material attached to the frame, wherein the flexible high strength layered anti-ballistic material is layered in at least two directions; and further wherein the layered anti-ballistic material is enveloped around the frame.

Multi-functional protective assemblies, systems including protective assemblies, and related methods

A protective assembly comprises a first region formulated and configured to provide protection from alpha, beta, and electromagnetic radiation and comprising a composite of particles and polymer; a second region formulated and configured to provide protection from ballistic impact and comprising a composite of fibers and polymer; and a third region formulated and configured to provide protection from thermal radiation and comprising a composite of particles, fiber, and polymer. The protective assembly may be provided on an aerospace structure. The protective assembly may be formed on the aerospace structure body using a co-curing process.

Deployable bank security system

Embodiments of systems, methods, and devices for protecting service personnel by deploying a physical barrier are described. Further embodiments describe additional security features such as lights, sirens, cameras, electronic locks, timers, and/or notifying security personnel or local law enforcement when the system is activated.

Composite material system including elastomeric, ceramic, and fabric layers

According to exemplary inventive practice, ceramic powder or slurry is selectively deposited at many discrete locations on each of many fiberglass fabric substrates. The sizes and/or shapes of the ceramic deposits vary among the substrates. The substrates are selectively ordered and stacked so that perpendicular through-plane alignments of respective ceramic deposits form selected three-dimensional geometric shapes. The resultant stack of substrates, characterized by many three-dimensional ceramic inclusions, is impregnated with an elastomer or an epoxy that binds the ceramic-deposited substrates together, resulting in a finished composite product. Inventive composite structures can be multifariously designed and embodied to afford selected ballistic and/or structural and/or electromagnetic qualities. Another mode of inventive practice provides for incorporation of the above-described inventive composite product as a layer in a multilayer composite system that also includes a high strain-rate-sensitivity-hardening polymer layer, a hybrid composite fabric layer, a ceramic layer, and a polymeric ballistic fabric layer.
