A secondary air system for an aircraft engine comprises an air flow path communicating between a source of pressurized cooling air and an air consuming component. A filtering baffle is disposed in the air flow path upstream from the air consuming component. The filtering baffle has a monolithic body at least partly made of a cellular material, the cellular material including a non-stochastic lattice structure having a plurality of cells arranged in an ordered, repeating manner for trapping particulate matter contained in a flow of contaminated air.
Cooling Method for a High-Temperature Radial Gas Turbine Engine
A method for cooling a high-temperature radial gas turbine engine increases turbine thermal efficiency and/or extends turbine operational lifetime. A bleed flow path enables cooling air to flow from a compressor outlet and along surfaces of the gas turbine rotors. The amount of cooling increases in proportion to a bleed fraction, which is defined as the ratio of mass flow in the bleed flow path to total mass flow in the compressor outlet. The heated air in the bleed flow path is mixed with the main mass flow into the turbine engine, so as to restore mass flow into the turbine, while maintaining a high turbine operating temperature and thermal efficiency. The thermal efficiency of a recuperator also increases in proportion to the bleed fraction.
Bore compartment seals for gas turbine engines
Rotor systems including an engine shaft, a forward hub, a rear hub, a rotor disk arranged between the forward hub and the rear hub, and a seal tube configured to define a forward hub compartment and a rear hub compartment. The forward hub compartment is defined forward of the rotor disk and the rear hub compartment is defined aft of the rotor disk. The seal tube is connected at a forward end to at least one of the rotor disk and the engine shaft and at a rear end to at least one of the rear hub and the engine shaft and the seal tube includes at least one axial compliance element configured to enable axial extension and compression of the seal tube in an axial direction along the engine shaft.
Throttle mechanism and turbine
There are provided a throttle mechanism and the like that are capable of easily changing a cross-sectional area of a flow path according to an operating state. The throttle mechanism in an embodiment is a throttle mechanism that controls a flow rate of a fluid flowing through a flow path, and is configured to make a cross-sectional area of the flow path change autonomously according to temperature.
Polymeric adhesive for anchoring compliant materials to another surface
Methods, compositions, and kits for adhering polymers and other materials to another material, and in particular to bone or bone-like structures or surfaces. A composition of matter includes a urethane dimethacrylate-methyl methacrylate copolymer with a plurality of first polymer regions based on urethane dimethacrylate and a plurality of second polymer regions based on methyl methacrylate. The method includes placing an orthopedic joint implant having an attachment surface in a joint space, applying a first non-urethane-containing precursor, a second urethane-containing precursor, and a initiator to the attachment surface; contacting the first and second precursors and the initiator with the joint surface; and copolymerizing the first and second precursors and forming an adhesive copolymer and attaching the implant to the joint.
SPEED-CONTROLLED CONDITIONING VALVE FOR HIGH PRESSURE COMPRESSOR
A rotor for a gas turbine engine has: a first rotor disk; an interstage flange that extends from the first rotor disk to a flange end portion that has an axial end surface and first radial outer and inner surfaces; a circumferential groove, formed in the flange end portion and extending from the axial end surface toward the first rotor disk; radial outer and inner slots formed in the first radial outer and inner surfaces along the circumferential groove and extend through the first radial outer and inner surfaces; and a valve member disposed within the circumferential groove and is secured within the circumferential groove when the flange end portion is connected to a second rotor disk, wherein the valve member deflects from rotor rotational speeds to seal or unseal the radial outer slot.
