The invention relates to a shaft, particularly a cam shaft (1), comprising a hollow shaft section (10) with at least one radial inlet opening (11a, 11b) for evacuating a gas through said hollow shaft section (10), and comprising a splash-guard device (4) arranged in the region of the radial inlet opening (11a, 11b) on the hollow shaft section (10). According to the invention, the splash-guard device (4) has a radially exposed cover with radial passage openings (8) and protrusions between said passage openings (8). The protrusions can, in particular, be in the form of ribs (9).

Lash adjuster control in engine valve actuation systems

Systems for valve actuation in internal combustion engines provide configurations for hydraulic lash adjusters and valve actuation valvetrain components that are particularly suitable for prevention of HLA jacking in dedicated cam environments including Type II valvetrain architectures. In one implementation, a lash adjuster loading component, which may comprise a stroke-limited spring biased piston associated with the main event valvetrain keeps the lash adjuster under a constant compressive force to prevent jacking.

INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
20170284241 · 2017-10-05 ·

An internal combustion engine is provided with a DOHC-type valve train in a cylinder head. The valve train includes an intake side camshaft with an intake side driven gear, and an exhaust side camshaft with an exhaust side driven gear. The cylinder head supports therein a spindle with an idle gear with an idle chain sprocket fixed thereto. The idle gear is in meshing engagement with both the intake and exhaust side driven gears. Rotary power of a crankshaft is transmitted via a cam chain to the idle gear to rotate both the intake and exhaust side camshafts. These camshafts are supported by bearings of a bearing wall and a camshaft holder. These bearings and camshaft holder are located, for compact arrangement, at a position axially coinciding or overlapping with the idle chain sprocket.

POWERTRAIN SHAFT ASSEMBLY WITH CORE PLUG AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING A SHAFT ASSEMBLY

A shaft assembly for a powertrain includes a shaft having a cavity extending at least partially from a first axial end to a second axial end of the shaft and opening at at least one of the first axial end and the second axial end. For example, the shaft may be a balance shaft, a camshaft, or a transmission shaft. A first core plug is disposed in the cavity. The shaft and the core plug may be the same material, or may be different materials. The shaft may have a first density, first cross-sectional area, or first area modulus, and the core plug may have a different second density, second cross sectional area, or second area modulus which may be less than the first density, the first cross-sectional area, or the first area modulus.

COMPOSITE VEHICLE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

Marine engines having cam phaser

A marine engine has an intake camshaft, an exhaust camshaft, and a crankshaft. Combustion in the marine engine causes rotation of the crankshaft which in turn causes rotation of the intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft. Rotation of the intake camshaft operates intake valves for controlling inflow of air to the marine engine. Rotation of the exhaust camshaft operates exhaust valves for controlling outflow of exhaust gas from the marine engine. A cam phaser is located at least partially inside at least one of the intake camshaft and the exhaust camshaft and is configured to vary a timing of operation of at least one of the intake valves and exhaust valves.
