A second castellation member is slidably mounted along the shaft adjacent the first end of the first castellation member. A third castellation member is mounted to the shaft adjacent the second end of the first castellation member. A bias spring is disposed between the second castellation member and the third castellation member and is configured to bias the second castellation member away from the third castellation member. Optionally, an annular shroud can enclose the three castellation members. The first castellation member is rotatable relative to the second and third castellation members between a first position and a second position.

Rocker arm assembly

A rocker arm assembly including a rocker body having an upper wall arranged above a pivot axis, two ears extending from opposing sides of the upper wall and defining a pivot bore coaxial with the pivot axis, and a pad end wall and a socket end wall each extending from the upper wall and the ears. A pad having a convex pad surface is formed on the pad end wall for engaging a valve and a socket having a concave socket surface is formed on the socket end wall for engaging a pushrod. The rocker arm assembly further includes a trunnion body and a bearing, each disposed in the pivot bores and for facilitating pivoting movement between the rocker body and the trunnion body.

A variable valve timing assembly is provided for extending a duration of an intake valve opening. The variable valve timing assembly includes an intake rocker mounted on a pedestal and operable by a cam lobe to open and close the intake valve. The intake rocker includes a lever extension, and a holding member in the pedestal is lockable in position by a hydraulic circuit in the pedestal to contact the lever extension of the intake rocker and hold the intake valve in the open position. A reset pin in the pedestal is actuatable by the cam lobe to release the holding member to allow the intake valve to close.

A valve gear has a cam shaft with a firing cam and a braking cam. A first cam follower is allocated to the firing cam with the first cam follower being provided in a firing operation for actuating a gas exchange valve. A second cam follower is allocated to the braking cam with the second cam follower being provided in a braking operation for actuating the gas exchange valve. A changeover device switches between the operations and has a tilting lever mount having a pivotably mounted mounting element on which a tilting lever belonging to the first cam follower and a tilting lever belonging to the second cam follower are pivotably mounted. The tilting lever mount has two mounting screws respectively having a ball head and the ball heads each form a ball joint together with a ball head receiver of the allocated tilting lever.

Automatic lash adjuster for use with high compression internal combustion engines

A hydraulic lash adjuster for use in diesel engines including a cylinder head having a first valve, a second valve, and a valve bridge extending between and in contact with both the first valve and the second valve. Where the diesel engine includes a first rocker arm, and where at least one of the first valve and the second valve undergo an oil can valve deflection rate. The hydraulic lash is configured to selectively transmit force between the first rocker arm and the valve bridge, and where the hydraulic lash adjuster is normally in the open configuration, and where the hydraulic lash adjuster changes from the open configuration to a closed configuration at a critical velocity that is greater than the oil can valve deflection rate.

Variable valve mechanism

A variable valve mechanism includes a cam that rotates about a rotating shaft in association with rotation of a crank shaft of an engine, a swinging arm that is disposed between the cam and a valve and is pushed by the rotating cam to swing and push the valve by a first end portion of the swinging arm, and a moving device that moves a second end portion of the swinging arm. Further, there is a regulating member that is coupled to the first end portion of the swinging arm so as to be rotatable and regulates displacement of the first end portion of the swinging arm relative to the valve when the second end portion of the swinging arm is moved by the moving device. The mechanism further includes a connection member that connects the second end portion of the swinging arm to the moving device.

Valve train assembly

A valve train assembly includes at least a number of exhaust valves; at least one camshaft with at least a pair of a primary lift cam and an engine brake lift cam. A number of rocker arms each include a cam follower for following one of the primary lift cam and the engine brake lift cam. One rocker arm includes a cam follower following an engine brake lift cam. The rocker arm is provided with an engine brake capsule. Various biasing assemblies are disclosed that cooperate with one of the rocker arms of which the cam follower follows an engine brake lift cam to accommodate mechanical lash.

Self-resetting single-valve hydraulic drive device and method based on primary and secondary pistons for push rod engine

A self-resetting single-valve hydraulic drive device and method based on primary and secondary pistons for a push rod engine is provided. A primary driving piston and a secondary driving piston are respectively provided on a rocker arm body and a valve bridge body. The secondary driving piston is connected to an exhaust valve. A driving oil passage connects the primary driving piston, the secondary driving piston and a drive control valve. When the drive control valve opens the driving oil passage, the primary driving piston and the secondary driving piston realize a hydraulic linkage. During a drive lift, the rocker arm body and the valve bridge body do not move, and the secondary driving piston opens the exhaust valve. In the beginning of a positive-power lift, a primary piston body oil passage and a secondary piston oil passage are closed, and the secondary driving piston is automatically reset.
