VALVE TRAIN ASSEMBLY
A valve train assembly for an internal combustion engine includes: a dual body rocker arm for controlling a valve of a cylinder, the rocker arm including a first body, a second body mounted for pivotal motion with respect to the first body, a first biasing means, and a latch pin moveable between a first position in which the latch pin latches the first body and the second body together and a second position in which the first body and the second body are un-latched to allow pivotal motion of the second body relative to the first body; and an actuator arrangement external to the dual body rocker arm and drivable by an actuation source, the actuator arrangement moving the latch pin from one of the first position and the second position to the other of the first position to the second position.
Rocker arm with an oil trough
A rocker arm assembly having a rocker arm including a pair of sidewalls, each sidewall defining a support aperture, a rocker arm support including a pair of opposed bearing support arms, each bearing support arm being disposed within a corresponding support aperture of the rocker arm and defining a lubrication groove extending along an outer surface thereof, and a pair of radial roller bearings, each including an inner cup, an outer cup, and a plurality of rollers disposed therebetween, wherein each radial roller bearing is disposed both on a corresponding bearing support arm and within a corresponding support aperture.
VALVE ACTUATION SYSTEM COMPRISING IN-SERIES LOST MOTION COMPONENTS FOR USE IN CYLINDER DEACTIVATION AND AUXILIARY VALVE ACTUATIONS
A valve actuation system comprises a valve actuation motion source configured to provide a main valve actuation motion and an auxiliary valve actuation motion for actuating at least one engine valve via a valve actuation load path. A lost motion subtracting mechanism is arranged in the valve actuation load path and configured, in a first default operating state, to convey at least the main valve actuation motion and configured, in a first activated state, to lose the main valve actuation motion and the auxiliary valve actuation motion. Additionally, a lost motion adding mechanism configured, in a second default operating state, to lose the auxiliary valve actuation motion and configured, in a second activated state, to convey the auxiliary valve actuation motion, wherein the lost motion adding mechanism is in series with the lost motion subtracting mechanism in the valve actuation load path at least during the second activated state.
Valve train assembly
A valve train assembly includes: a first group of one or more dual body rocker arms and a second group of one or more dual body rocker arms, the first group for controlling one or more valves of a first cylinder and the second group for controlling one or more valves of a second cylinder, each of the dual body rocker arms including a first body, a second body, and a latching arrangement for latching and unlatching the first body and the second body; and an actuator arrangement external to the dual body rocker arms for controlling the latching arrangement, the actuator arrangement including a shaft having a first set of one or more cams for controlling the latching arrangements of the first group of one or more dual body rocker arms and a second set of one or more cams for controlling the latching arrangements of the second group.
DISCRETE VARIABLE VALVE LIFT ENGINE SYSTEMS AND METHODS
A method of providing a rocker arm set for a valvetrain includes providing a first rocker arm configured as a switching rocker arm for a first intake valve, and providing a second rocker arm configured as a fixed rocker arm for a second intake valve, the second rocker arm operating in a normal Otto cycle mode. The first rocker arm operates in a late intake valve closing (LIVC) mode where the first rocker arm is configured to close the first intake valve later than the second intake valve.
Hydraulic lash adjuster
A hydraulic lash adjuster includes a longitudinally extending pushrod having a proximal end and a distal end, and a cavity located at the distal end and a piston received in the cavity. The piston includes an internal reservoir and a fluid pathway to the internal reservoir. The fluid pathway includes a longitudinal passage and a radial passage.
Two-part lifter assembly
A roller-lifter assembly for a cam-actuated engine, comprising a two-part roller lifter (10, 13, 16) comprising a pump actuator main body, a receiving portion extending from the main body (160, 161, 162, 163 164), and a cam follower comprising a roller assembly (31) or a flat tappet integrated to the main body and configured to follow a rotating cam of a cam-actuated (32) engine. A hydraulically-actuated capsule (200, 202, 203, 204, 205) is fitted to the receiving portion of the pump actuator, the capsule configured to rotate with respect to the pump actuator (100, 101, 102, 103, 104).
Anti-rotation feature for followers using an oil gallery insert
An engine comprises a plurality of rotating eccentric cams on a cam rail, a valve train mechanism, and respective followers wherein at least one of the respective followers has a respective first end in contact with a respective rotating eccentric cam and a respective second end in contact with the valve train mechanism, a body extending between the first end and the second end, and a follower fluid port.
