LASH ADJUSTMENT IN LOST MOTION ENGINE SYSTEMS

Systems for valve actuation in internal combustion engines provide configurations for hydraulic lash adjusters and valve actuation valvetrain components that are particularly suitable for prevention of HLA jacking in lost motion cam environments and in valve bridge environments. In one implementation, a rocker arm may transmit motion from a lost motion cam having main event and auxiliary event lobes. Main event motion is transmitted to two engine valves through the rocker arm, a lash adjuster, lash adjuster loading component and valve bridge, which define part of a first load path. Braking motion is transmitted to one of the engine valves through an inboard valve actuator and bridge pin, which define part of a second load path. The HLA is thus disposed in a separate load path from the braking valve load and the lash adjuster loading component keeps the lash adjuster under a constant compressive force to prevent jacking.

VALVE TRAIN ASSEMBLY

A valve train assembly includes: a first group of one or more dual body rocker arms and a second group of one or more dual body rocker arms, the first group for controlling one or more valves of a first cylinder and the second group for controlling one or more valves of a second cylinder, each of the dual body rocker arms including a first body, a second body, and a latching arrangement for latching and unlatching the first body and the second body; and an actuator arrangement external to the dual body rocker arms for controlling the latching arrangement, the actuator arrangement including a shaft having a first set of one or more cams for controlling the latching arrangements of the first group of one or more dual body rocker arms and a second set of one or more cams for controlling the latching arrangements of the second group.

ENGINE VALVE LIFTER HAVING ANTI-ROTATION PLUG

An engine roller lifter for use in a leak-valvetrain of an internal combustion engine includes a body, a roller and an anti-rotation plug. The body includes an outer peripheral surface configured for sliding movement in a bore provided in the engine. The bore is supplied oil by an oil passage communicating therewith. The body defines an opening. The roller bearing is rotatably mounted to the body and is configured for rolling contact with an engine camshaft. The anti-rotation plug is received at the opening and has a plug body including an anti-rotation protrusion that extends radially beyond an outer peripheral surface of the plug body. The anti-rotation plug can be staked into the opening of the body.

Electro-mechanical hydraulic valve lifter for precise control of fuel consumption

The invention relates to an improved system of electro-mechanical hydraulic valve lifters for piston engine automobiles that increases fuel economy and reduces fuel emissions. The electro-mechanical hydraulic valve lifters enclose a magnetorheological fluid chamber, containing magnetorheological fluid. A control module manages voltage sent to the magnetorheological fluid in the magnetorheological fluid chamber. The control module introduces various amounts of magnetic flux to the magnetorheological fluid in the magnetorheological fluid chamber. The magnetorheological fluid's viscosity changes based on the amount of magnetic flux applied to it from the electromagnets and, along with the magnetorheological fluid chamber spring, controls how much an intake and exhaust port of the spark plug engine opens to control the amount of fuel used and exhaust let out of the engine.

Hermetically sealed lash adjuster

A sealed type lash adjuster (100A) includes a plunger (2A), a body (1) in which the plunger (2A) is inserted in a fitting manner, a first sealing means (5) provided between the plunger (2A) and the body (1), and a second sealing member (20A) that can prevent or suppress intrusion of an engine oil from an outside. The second sealing means (20A) seals a portion of the plunger (2A) exposed from the body and is arranged so as to cover a clearance (K) formed between an open end portion of the body and the plunger (2A). More specifically, the second sealing member (20A) has a one-end portion (20aA) and an other-end portion (20bA) as sealing parts having a function of preventing or suppressing intrusion of the engine oil from the outside.
