This disclosure relates to a camshaft adjusting system for a motor vehicle, having an inner camshaft, and an outer camshaft, which is arranged coaxially with and radially outside the inner camshaft. The camshaft adjusting system further includes an input wheel, which is designed to introduce torque into the camshafts, a hydraulic camshaft adjuster, which acts on the outer camshaft to adjust the phase angle of the outer camshaft relative to the input wheel, and an electric camshaft adjuster, which acts on the inner camshaft to adjust the phase angle of the inner camshaft relative to the input wheel. The electric camshaft adjuster engages in the hydraulic camshaft adjuster at least partially in an axial direction.

The cavities of the hydraulically operated phaser are defined in part by an annular member that radially surrounds, and axially overlaps, a gear of the electrically operated phaser, which gear is separate from the annular member and forms radially inner boundary walls of the cavities.

A camshaft phaser for a concentric camshaft assembly includes a stator defining a cavity and configured to receive power from an engine crankshaft. A rotor is supported within the cavity and is rotatable relative to the stator. A drive adapter has a shank and a head. The shank is extendable through the rotor and is configured to engage with an inner camshaft. The head has an end face defining a first key feature and a continuous groove. A drive plate is fixed to the stator and includes a radial wall defining a second key feature engageable with the first key feature to rotationally fix the drive adapter to the drive plate. An annular gasket is received in the groove and is sealable with the wall.

The electric camshaft phaser includes: an input non-rotatably connected to the stator; an output gear; and at least one protrusion fixed to the output gear and arranged to be inserted into at least one slot of a second camshaft. The at least one protrusion is arranged to transmit rotational torque from the output gear to the second camshaft.
