A camshaft phaser arrangement configured for a concentric camshaft assembly having inner and outer camshafts is provided. The camshaft phaser arrangement includes a first camshaft phaser, a second camshaft phaser, a coupling, and at least one timing wheel connected to at least one of the first or second camshaft phaser. Each of the camshaft phasers is configured to be connected to either the inner or the outer camshaft. The coupling includes a coupling ring and at least one coupling pin that torsionally connects the first camshaft phaser to the second camshaft phaser. The coupling provides for radial and axial movement between the first camshaft phaser and the second camshaft phaser.

Camshaft adjusting system having a hydraulic camshaft adjuster and an electric camshaft adjuster
This disclosure relates to a camshaft adjusting system for a motor vehicle, having an inner camshaft, and an outer camshaft, which is arranged coaxially with and radially outside the inner camshaft. The camshaft adjusting system further includes an input wheel, which is designed to introduce torque into the camshafts, a hydraulic camshaft adjuster, which acts on the outer camshaft to adjust the phase angle of the outer camshaft relative to the input wheel, and an electric camshaft adjuster, which acts on the inner camshaft to adjust the phase angle of the inner camshaft relative to the input wheel. The electric camshaft adjuster engages in the hydraulic camshaft adjuster at least partially in an axial direction.

A camshaft phaser arrangement configured for a concentric camshaft assembly having an inner camshaft and an outer camshaft is provided. The camshaft phaser arrangement can facilitate independent phasing of intake and exhaust valves. The camshaft phaser arrangement includes a first driven wheel and a second driven wheel, both configured to be driven by a driving wheel. A first camshaft phaser is connected to the first driven wheel and configured to be connected to either the inner or outer camshaft. A second camshaft phaser is connected to the second driven wheel and configured to be connected to either the inner or outer camshaft which is not connected to the first driven wheel. A motion transfer assembly can connect the second camshaft phaser to the concentric camshaft assembly. One or both of the camshaft phasers can be an electric camshaft phaser or a hydraulic camshaft phaser.
DUAL ACTUATING VARIABLE CAM
A variable camshaft timing system including a first camshaft phaser having an input that is configured to receive rotational force from a crankshaft and an output that is configured to link with a first camshaft of a concentric camshaft assembly to change the angular position of the first camshaft relative to a crankshaft; and a second camshaft phaser having an output that is configured to link with a second camshaft of the concentric camshaft assembly to change the angular position of the second camshaft relative to the crankshaft, wherein the first camshaft is concentrically positioned to the first camshaft and the first camshaft phaser is mechanically linked to the second camshaft phaser to communicate rotational force from the crankshaft to the second camshaft phaser through the first camshaft phaser and the mechanical link.

A variable camshaft timing system, includes a camshaft phasing mechanism that selectively changes an angular position of an input relative to an output; a first camshaft phaser sprocket, coupled with the input of the camshaft phasing mechanism, configured to engage a first endless loop that communicates rotational force from a crankshaft to the input of the camshaft phasing mechanism; and a second camshaft phaser sprocket, axially spaced from the first camshaft phaser sprocket and coupled with the output of the camshaft phasing mechanism, configured to engage a second endless loop that communicates rotational force from the output of the camshaft phasing mechanism to a camshaft and change the angular position of the camshaft relative to the crankshaft, wherein the camshaft phasing mechanism is mounted about an axis that is different from an axis of camshaft rotation.

A camshaft phaser assembly, including: an axis of rotation; a first hydraulic camshaft phaser including a first stator arranged to receive rotational torque, a first rotor including a plurality of first through-bores, and a first plurality of phaser chambers circumferentially bounded by the first stator and the first rotor; a second hydraulic camshaft phaser including a second stator non-rotatably connected to the first stator, a second rotor, and a second plurality of phaser chambers circumferentially bounded by the second stator and the second rotor; a first trigger wheel including a plurality of second through-bores connected to the plurality of first through-bores, non-rotatably connected to the first rotor, and arranged to identify a rotational position of the first rotor; and a second trigger wheel non-rotatably connected to the second rotor and arranged to identify a rotational position of the second rotor.

A camshaft phaser assembly, including: an axis of rotation; a hydraulic camshaft phaser including a stator arranged to receive rotational torque and including a plurality of radially inwardly extending protrusions, a rotor arranged to be non-rotatably connected to a first camshaft and including a plurality of radially outwardly extending protrusions circumferentially interleaved with the plurality of radially inwardly extending protrusions, and a plurality of chambers bounded at least in part by the plurality of radially inwardly extending protrusions and the plurality of radially outwardly extending protrusions; an electric camshaft phaser including an output gear arranged to be non-rotatably connected to a second camshaft located concentrically within the first camshaft and an input non-rotatably connected to the stator; and a connection plate non-rotatably connecting the input and the stator. The rotor and the output gear are rotatable with respect to each other about the axis of rotation.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING VALVE TIMING OF CONTINUOUS VARIABLE VALVE DURATION ENGINE
A method for controlling intake and exhaust valves of an engine may include: determining, by a controller, a target opening duration of the intake and exhaust valves based on an engine load and an engine speed; modifying, by an intake continuous variable valve duration (CVVD) device and by an exhaust CVVD device, current opening and closing timings of the intake valve and/or exhaust valve based on the target opening duration of the valves; and advancing or retarding, by the intake and/or exhaust CVVD devices, the current opening timing of the intake and exhaust valves while simultaneously retarding or advancing the current closing timing of the intake and exhaust valve by a predetermined value based on the target opening duration.
