The disclosure is intended to oxidize PM deposited in a filter in a suitable manner. Provision is made for a filter of wall flow type, a temperature raising unit to raise the temperature of the filter from a downstream side thereof, an exhaust gas shut-off valve, and a controller. The controller controls a flow of exhaust gas in the filter by once fully closing the exhaust gas shut-off valve and then fully opening it when the flow rate of the exhaust gas is equal to or larger than a predetermined flow rate, so as to cause PM to move to a downstream side portion in the filter in the direction of flow of exhaust gas, and carries out regeneration processing which oxidizes the PM by using the temperature raising unit after the controller has caused the PM to move to the downstream side portion of the filter.

REFORMING SYSTEM

A fuel reforming system includes: an engine combusting reformed gas to generate mechanical power; an intake line connected to the engine to supply the reformed gas and air to the engine; an exhaust line connected to the engine to circulate the exhaust gas discharged from the engine; a fuel reformer provided at an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) line diverging from the exhaust line; and a catalyst disposed at the exhaust line and purifying nitrogen oxide included in the exhaust gas at a front end of the fuel reformer. In particular, the fuel reformer mixes the fuel with the EGR gas which is a part of the exhaust gas and passes through the EGR line, and reforms the fuel mixed in the EGR gas.

Exhaust gas passage with aftertreatment system

Methods and systems are provided for adjusting flow of exhaust gas from downstream of an exhaust turbine outlet to an exhaust gas aftertreatment device inlet via a compact turbine outlet cone with adjustable swirl vanes. Exhaust flow reaching the exhaust gas aftertreatment device is adjusted based on a desired exhaust gas temperature and exhaust gas flow rate at the aftertreatment device. During cold start conditions, the swirl vanes may be closed to concentrate exhaust gas flowing towards a portion of the aftertreatment device while after attainment of aftertreatment device light-off temperature, the position of the swirl vanes may be adjusted to introduce turbulence and homogeneity to exhaust flow reaching the exhaust aftertreatment device.

EXHAUST PURIFICATION SYSTEM AND CONTROL METHOD THEREFOR

An exhaust purification system includes an exhaust after-treatment apparatus which is provided on an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine and which includes catalysts for purifying exhaust gas, a catalyst temperature retention control module for executing a catalyst temperature retention control in which an intake air flow is reduced to thereby suppress a reduction in the temperature of the catalysts when the internal combustion engine is in a motoring state where fuel injection into the internal combustion engine is stopped, and a prohibition module for prohibiting the execution of the catalyst temperature retention control in a case where an activation of an exhaust brake system is detected while the internal combustion engine is in the motoring state.

System and method for reducing cold start emissions using an active exhaust throttle valve and an exhaust gas recirculation loop

A system according to the principles of the present disclosure includes an engine start module and an exhaust throttle valve control module. The engine start module determines when an engine is started based on at least one of an input from an ignition system and the speed of the engine. The exhaust throttle valve control module selectively fully closes an exhaust throttle valve in an exhaust system of the engine when the engine is started to trap exhaust gas in the exhaust system.

GASOLINE PARTICLE FILTER TEMPERATURE CONTROL

Methods and systems are provided for controlling particulate filter temperature during non-combustion conditions. In one example, a method for an engine includes responsive to a particulate filter temperature above a threshold temperature and while operating the engine with deceleration fuel shut-off (DFSO), fully closing a throttle valve configured to regulate flow of intake air to the engine, and responsive to intake manifold pressure dropping below a threshold pressure while the throttle valve is fully closed, adjusting a position of the throttle valve based on the particulate filter temperature.

Exhaust purification device for internal combustion engine

An exhaust gas purification device includes a diesel particulate filter (DPF) that collects particulate matter (PM) from an exhaust gas, a urea water spray unit that sprays urea water into the exhaust gas, a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) device that reduces and purifies NO.sub.x of the exhaust gas, a capacitance detecting unit that detects capacitance of the DPF, a PM accumulation calculating unit that calculates an amount of accumulated PM on the basis of the capacitance, an NO.sub.2 consumption estimating unit that calculates an amount of consumed NO.sub.2 on the basis of the amount of accumulated PM, and a control unit that controls an engine such that a ratio of NO to NO.sub.2 flowing into the SCR approaches 1:1 on the basis of the estimated consumption.

A diesel engine includes an exhaust-gas purification device and allows the exhaust-gas purification device to be disposed at the upper face side of the diesel engine. The exhaust-gas purification device purifies exhaust gas discharged from the diesel engine. The direction of a long side of the exhaust-gas purification device is perpendicular to the direction in which a crankshaft, included in the diesel engine, extends. An exhaust throttle device is disposed between an exhaust manifold, included in the diesel engine, and an exhaust gas inlet, included in the exhaust-gas purification device.

Construction machine

A regeneration device (22) executes regeneration treatment of a filter (21) in an exhaust gas purifying device (18) by burning particulate matter trapped in the filter (21). The regeneration device (22) interrupts the regeneration treatment of the filter (21) when an exhaust gas temperature T detected by an exhaust gas temperature sensor (26) becomes less than an exhaust gas temperature threshold Tt during a period of performing the regeneration treatment of the filter (21). In a case where the regeneration treatment of the filter (21) is interrupted, when the exhaust gas temperature T becomes equal to or more than the exhaust gas temperature threshold Tt, the regeneration treatment of the filter (21) is restarted.
