METHOD FOR OPERATING AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE WITH A FUEL DETECTION
A method for operating an internal combustion engine with detection of the fuel used for injection is described. In the method, the elasticity modulus of the fuel to be injected is determined at a first and a second injection pressure. A difference value is calculated from the difference between the two elasticity modulus values related to the pressure difference and is compared with a differentiating value. The fuel being used is detected depending on whether the difference value is above or below the differentiation value. In particular, the method is used for differentiating diesel fuel EN590 and biodiesel.
TRI-FUEL ELECTRIC POWER GENERATOR
An electricity generator includes a generator section which is a complete standalone electricity generator designed to operate on a hydrocarbon fuel and a fuel conversion section which adapts the generator section to operate on alternative fuels that are different than the designed fuel of generator section. The generator section includes a RPM control unit, an internal combustion engine which has a crankshaft, an electromagnetic conversion component which converts the rotational motion of the crankshaft into electricity and a crankshaft sensor which senses the rotational speed of the crankshaft thereby creating a RPM control signal. The control signal is provided to the RPM control unit which controls the rotational speed of the crankshaft. The fuel conversion section includes a first fuel source and a second fuel source. Characteristically, the first fuel source provides a methanol-containing fuel and the second fuel source provides LPG or flare gas.
ADAPTIVE PROTECTION FOR A MULTI-FUEL GENERATOR SYSTEM
A movable electrical generation system includes a generator operable to produce a supply of electrical energy, a prime mover operable to drive the generator, a first fuel, a second fuel different from the first fuel, a control system operable to deliver one of the first fuel and the second fuel to the prime mover and to control an electrical load applied to the generator based on one of a first fuel current protection limit and a second fuel current protection limit.

A portable flexible fuel generator, having an engine, includes: a cylinder and a spark plug in the cylinder, a primary fuel tank fluidly connected to the cylinder, an air intake path fluidly connecting atmosphere to the cylinder, a start module including a starting fuel tank holder and a starting fuel line, where the starting fuel line is fluidly connected to the air intake path, a coolant path which provide a flow path for coolant to cool the cylinder, and a thermal controller along the coolant path. Furthermore, the engine has full cylinder cooling.
Method for operating a dual lift pump system
Methods and systems are described for a fuel system in an engine comprising two lift pumps. One example method comprises deactivating one of a first lift pump and a second lift pump if fuel fill level in a common reservoir decreases below a threshold fill level, wherein the first lift pump and the second lift pump are positioned in the common reservoir. By deactivating one of the two lift pumps, the two lift pumps may be protected from degradation due to fuel starvation.
HEAT EXCHANGER CONFIGURATION FOR ADSORPTION-BASED ONBOARD OCTANE ON-DEMAND AND CETANE ON-DEMAND
A vehicular propulsion system, a vehicular fuel system and a method of operating an internal combustion engine. A separation unit that makes up a part of the fuel system includes one or more adsorbent-based chambers such that the separation unit may selectively receive and separate at least a portion of onboard fuel into octane-enhanced and cetane-enhanced fuel components. A supply tank includes three compartments where the first contains the onboard fuel, the second receives a vaporized adsorbate from the separation unit and condenses at least a part of it into one of an octane-rich fuel component or a cetane-rich fuel component, while the third may either store the condensed and enriched fuel component or help condense more of the vaporized adsorbate. The condensing takes place through heat exchange between the onboard fuel and the vaporized adsorbate that are present within the various compartments of the supply tank. A controller may be used to determine a particular operational condition of the internal combustion engine such that the onboard fuel can be sent to one or more combustion chambers within the internal combustion engine without first passing through the separation unit, or instead to the separation unit in situations where the internal combustion engine may require an octane-rich or cetane-rich mixture.
METHOD FOR OPERATING AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE OF A DRIVE SYSTEM FOR A MOTOR VEHICLE, DRIVE SYSTEM, AND MOTOR VEHICLE
A method for operating an internal combustion engine of a drive system for a motor vehicle, the internal combustion engine being designed for operation using various types of fuel, has the following steps: querying operating parameters of fuel-relevant functions of the drive system by means of a central fuel coordination device of a central engine coordination device, determining possible types of fuel for operating the internal combustion engine, based on the queried operating parameters and predefined fuel release conditions, by means of the central fuel coordination device, selecting a type of fuel for operating the internal combustion engine, based on the determined possible types of fuel and at least one predefined selection criterion, by means of the central fuel coordination device, transmitting information identifying the selected type of fuel from the central fuel coordination device to a central engine control unit of the central engine coordination device, and operating the internal combustion engine with the selected type of fuel by means of the central engine control unit.
INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES WHICH UTILIZE MULTIPLE FUELS AND METHODS FOR THE OPERATION OF SUCH
According to one or more embodiments, an internal combustion engine may be operated by a method which includes one or more of injecting a first fuel and a second fuel into an engine cylinder to form a fuel mixture, and combusting the fuel mixture with a spark plug to translate a piston housed in the engine cylinder and rotate a crank shaft coupled to the piston. The first fuel may comprise a greater octane rating than the second fuel. A target CA50 may correspond to a minimum in specific fuel consumption of the fuel mixture. The spark plug may initiate combustion at a time such that the internal combustion engine operates with an operational CA50 that is within 20 degrees of the target CA50.
Adsorption-based fuel systems for onboard cetane on-demand and octane on-demand

A separation unit that makes up a part of the fuel system includes one or more adsorbent-based chambers such that the separation unit may selectively receive and separate at least a portion of onboard fuel into octane-enhanced and cetane-enhanced components. Regeneration of an adsorbate takes place through a heat exchange relation with existing system infrastructure. A controller may be used to determine a particular operational condition of the internal combustion engine such that the onboard fuel can be sent to one or more combustion chambers within the internal combustion engine without first passing through the separation unit, or instead to the separation unit in situations where the internal combustion engine may require an octane-rich or cetane-rich mixture, where adsorbed and remainder portions taken from the separation unit may be stored in separate tanks for later mixing and use within the combustion chamber.
