11022051 · 2021-06-01 · ·

A method of operating an internal combustion engine having at least one combustion chamber and an actuator disposed therein being arranged to drive an output shaft of the engine, the method comprising: 5 (i) injecting a water containing fuel into the combustion chamber; (ii) flash boiling the water-containing fuel to form water vapour within the combustion chamber; (iii) thermolyzing the water vapour to form hydrogen gas and oxygen gas; and (iv) combusting the hydrogen gas to drive the actuator within the combustion chamber to 10 thereby drive the connected output shaft of the combustion engine.

DYNAMIC LOADS BASED ON FUEL TYPE

A system and method for dynamically controlling an aggregate load on a generator is described. Fuel change data for a gaseous fuel for the generator is identified. The fuel change data indicates a change in fuel type for the generator. A controller identifies at least one load portion from the aggregate load associated with the change in fuel type and generates a switch command for a switch coupled to the at least one load in response to the change in fuel type.

Alcohol And Plasma Enhanced Prechambers For Higher Efficiency, Lower Emissions Gasoline Engines
20210131337 · 2021-05-06 ·

Optimized alcohol and plasma enhanced prechambers for engines powered by gasoline and other fuels are used to increase the range of prechamber operation and to reduce soot. The increased prechamber capability is employed to extend the limit of lean operation of the engines. It can also be used to extend the limit of heavy EGR operation and to enable higher RPM operation. The amount of alcohol used in the prechamber is preferably less than 2% of the fuel that is used in the engine cylinder. The alcohol for the prechamber can be entirely provided by onboard separation from a gasoline-alcohol fuel mixture.

A control device of an engine including a cylinder, a piston, a cylinder head, and a combustion chamber is provided, which includes intake and exhaust ports, a swirl control valve provided in an intake passage connected to the intake port, a fuel injection valve attached to the cylinder head to be oriented into the center of the combustion chamber in a plan view thereof, and having first and second nozzle ports, and a control unit. The control unit includes a processor configured to execute a swirl opening controlling module to output the control signal to the swirl control valve to have a given opening at which a swirl ratio inside the combustion chamber becomes 2 or above, and a fuel injection timing controlling module to output the control signal to the fuel injector to inject fuel at a given timing at which the swirl ratio becomes 2 or above.

OPTIMIZED FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR DIRECT INJECTION ETHANOL ENHANCEMENT OF GASOLINE ENGINES
20210003084 · 2021-01-07 ·

Fuel management system for enhanced operation of a spark ignition gasoline engine. Injectors inject an anti-knock agent such as ethanol directly into a cylinder. It is preferred that the direct injection occur after the inlet valve is closed. It is also preferred that stoichiometric operation with a three way catalyst be used to minimize emissions. In addition, it is also preferred that the anti-knock agents have a heat of vaporization per unit of combustion energy that is at least three times that of gasoline.

Dual fuel nozzle arrangement

A nozzle assembly of a dual fuel injector includes a first fuel conduit and a second fuel conduit. An anti-leakage feature of the nozzle assembly includes a cylindrical tubular sleeve axially extending in an inner space of the nozzle body from an upper end attached to the body to a distant lower end, the outer valve member being axially guided through said sleeve.

FUEL EXCHANGE SYSTEM AND FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEM FOR FUEL SYSTEMS
20200400083 · 2020-12-24 ·

A system for exchanging of different fuels that can be used for operation of an engine. The system includes a fuel exchange unit, a control and an exchange return conduit. The fuel exchange unit is configured to deliver a first fuel at pressure into the injections system given a switched-off engine, in order to replace a second fuel, which is located in the injection system, with the first fuel. A fuel delivery system includes a media converter which includes a deflectable element. The media converter is driven by a drive unit via the fluid by way of the fluid being able to be led at a varying pressure to the media transformer via a first feed conduit, and is configured to deliver the fuel via a pumping effect.

Starting a gaseous and pilot fueled engine
10859019 · 2020-12-08 · ·

Starting a gaseous fuelled engine employing a pilot fuel at cold temperatures is challenging due to reduced ignitability and combustion efficiency of the fuel(s), and the increased viscosity of engine oil. A technique for starting a compression ignition, gaseous fuelled internal combustion engine employing a pilot fuel comprises determining one of a normal start condition and a cold start condition; during the normal start condition, introducing the pilot fuel into a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine when the pilot fuel pressure rises above a first pressure; during the cold start condition, introducing the pilot fuel into the combustion chamber when the pilot fuel pressure rises above a second pressure that is higher than the first pressure; and selectively introducing the gaseous fuel into the combustion chamber.
