In a control device for an internal combustion engine in which internal EGR and external EGR are conducted, an ideal in-cylinder gas amount and an ideal in-cylinder gas temperature in an ideal state in which neither of EGR gas recirculates into a cylinder are calculated (steps 1 and 2). A mixed gas amount of intake air and the external EGR gas present on a downstream side of a throttle valve is calculated, based on a rotation speed of the internal combustion engine and intake air pressure (step 21) to detect a mixed gas temperature. An actual in-cylinder gas temperature and amount and an EGR ratio are calculated, based on the ideal in-cylinder gas amount, the ideal in-cylinder gas temperature, the mixed gas amount, and the mixed gas temperature (steps 24, 4, and 5), and an internal combustion engine is controlled based on the EGR ratio.

Method for controlling emissions of nitrogen oxides in exhaust of internal combustion engine

The invention relates to a control method that allows the mean quantity of nitrogen oxides per kilometer covered emitted by a vehicle fitted with an internal combustion engine associated with a post-treatment system to be kept below a predefined fixed threshold, for any journey made by the vehicle. The mean quantity emitted over a fixed elementary distance that has just been covered by the vehicle is calculated iteratively, together with a long-term conformity factor which is equal to the mean quantity emitted over the entire distance covered since the start of the journey. When it is found that the long-term conformity factor is above the threshold, the engine and/or the post-treatment system is regulated in such a way as to obtain, over the next fixed elementary distance, a mean quantity of nitrogen oxides per kilometer that is lower than the threshold value FC, for example equal to 90% of the threshold, whatever the engine operating point. Thus, the long-term conformity factor converges towards the threshold.

Generator driven by engine

When an acceptance unit accepts an advance notice, a control unit, controls inflow amount of the air, an air fuel ratio derived from an injection amount of a fuel, and an advance of an ignition timing of an ignition device to temporarily increase a power that can be supplied by a generator. The control unit is determines whether a margin of an opening of a throttle is not less than a predetermined threshold. If the margin of the opening of the throttle is less than the predetermined threshold, the control unit inhibits a temporarily increase of the power. If the margin of the opening of the throttle is not less than the predetermined threshold, the control unit permits the temporarily increase of the power.

An intake adaption system for internal combustion engines of vehicles employing an aftermarket intake air assembly including high capacity intake ducting and a low resistance air filter. Intake air sensors provide intake air condition signals of filtered intake air to the engine. A CPU includes a routine for modifying the intake air condition signals of the filtered intake air to the ECM. Tables alter the appropriate sensor signal or signals to correct for the calibration and predictions made by the ECM based on the original equipment. A first table translates the intake air condition signals from the intake air sensors indicative of MAF into the engine to provide actual MAF into the engine. A second table generates a pressure offset responsive to MAF into the engine to provide the ECM with a lower pressure value than actual, avoiding a diagnostic trouble code.

A wall temperature acquisition unit acquires a wall temperature of an internal combustion engine. A wall temperature adjustment unit adjusts the wall temperature. A ratio adjustment unit adjusts a gas ratio that is acquired by dividing a mass flow amount of gas supplied to the internal combustion engine by a mass flow amount of fuel supplied to the internal combustion engine. The wall temperature adjustment unit performs a low wall temperature control to maintain the wall temperature at a low temperature when the internal combustion engine is at a high load and a high wall temperature control to maintain the wall temperature at a high temperature when the internal combustion engine is at a low load. The ratio adjustment unit adjusts the gas ratio based on the wall temperature, when switching between the low wall temperature control and the high wall temperature control is performed.
