The electronic control system is configured to evaluate engine operating parameters including an engine load and an engine speed. The electronic control system is responsive to variation of the engine operating parameters to control operation of the fueling system to vary combustion in the at least one dedicated cylinder between rich of stoichiometric and stoichiometric.
Early intake valve closing and intake manifold pressure control
Systems, apparatus, and methods are disclosed that include an internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders and controlling the intake manifold pressure during early intake valve opening to reduce or prevent oil consumption.

Systems and methods for estimating an engine event location are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a control system is configured to receive feedback from at least one vibration sensor coupled to a reciprocating engine, estimate an engine parameter based at least on the feedback and an Empirical Transform Function (ETF), estimate a location of an engine event based on the engine parameter, and adjust operation of the reciprocating engine based at least on the location of the engine event.
Systems and methods for increasing engine power output under globally stoichiometric operation
Methods and systems are provided for increasing engine power while reducing vehicle emissions and engine system degradation. In one example, a method may include, responsive to an engine load reaching a threshold load, increasing engine torque by increasing an amount of boost without providing exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), and, responsive to the engine torque reaching a first threshold torque, increasing the engine torque by increasing an EGR rate over a plurality of engine cycles while further increasing the amount of boost. In this way, cooling effects from the EGR enable engine air flow, and thus engine power, to be increased while engine vibrations and heat-related exhaust component degradation are decreased.
Systems and methods for increasing engine power output under globally stoichiometric operation
Methods and systems are provided for increasing engine power via partial engine enrichment and exhaust gas recirculation. In one example, a method may include enriching a first set of engine cylinders, enleaning a second set of the engine cylinders, and operating a third set of the engine cylinders at stoichiometry, exhaust gas from all of the engine cylinders producing a stoichiometric mixture at a downstream emission control device, and providing exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) to an intake passage of the engine from the first set of cylinders. In this way, cooling effects from the partial enrichment and the EGR enable engine air flow, and thus engine power, to be increased while an efficiency of the emission control device is maintained, thereby decreasing vehicle emissions.
Exhaust gas recirculation control systems and methods
An engine control system includes: a target air mass module configured to determine a target mass of air within a cylinder of an engine based on a torque request; a boost control module configured to control boost provided by a turbocharger based on the torque request; an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control module configured to selectively: set a target opening of an EGR valve based on the target mass of air; set the target opening of the EGR valve to a predetermined minimum opening, where the predetermined minimum opening is greater than zero percent open; and control opening of the EGR valve based on the target opening of the EGR valve.
Exhaust temperature maintenance using a parasitic load
A power system is disclosed. The power system may include one or more memories and a controller. The controller may determine an exhaust temperature of an engine associated with a continuously variable transmission or a hybrid transmission. The controller may determine a target increase to the exhaust temperature based on the exhaust temperature failing to satisfy a threshold. The controller may determine, based on a lookup table, a target increase to a torque output of the engine based on the target increase to the exhaust temperature. The controller may cause a parasitic torque of the engine to be increased based on the target increase to the torque output.
