METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING AN ON-VEHICLE EVAPORATIVE EMISSION SYSTEM

A vehicle system having an internal combustion engine and evaporative emission system including a canister is described, wherein canister includes a chamber having a flexible Metal Organic Framework (MOF) material disposed therein. A controllable device is coupled to the flexible MOF material, and a controller is operatively connected to the controllable device and the purge valve. The controller includes an instruction set that is executable to activate the controllable device and control the purge valve to an open state in response to a command to purge the canister, determine an activation parameter for the controllable device, determine a purge flow, integrate the purge flow to determine a total purge mass, and deactivate the controllable device when the total purge mass is greater than a threshold.

Methods and systems for an exhaust gas recirculation system

Methods and systems are provided for a high-pressure exhaust gas recirculation system. In one example, the high-pressure exhaust gas recirculation system comprises pressure seconds arranged on different sides of a valve. The pressure sensors are used to regulate exhaust-gas recirculate flow without a fixed orifice delta pressure sensor.

Engine mass flow observer with fault mitigation

Methods and systems for fault mitigation in an engine system. For ordinary operation, a set of control signals are generated after calculating airflows within the engine system using a set of flow models linked to components of the engine system, while underweighting or omitting an output of a sensor in the engine system. When a fault is identified, the set of flow models is analyzed differently by underweighting or omitting one or more flow models in favor of using the sensor output. By so doing, the engine system can continue to be operated without triggering an on-board diagnostic alert requiring cessation of operation.

EGR EJECTOR AND CONTROL SYSTEM FOR EGR EJECTOR

An exhaust gas recirculation ejector system for an engine that includes an air conduit coupled to an engine providing charge air to the engine. The air conduit includes at least one bend formed therein. The at least one bend includes a port formed therein. An EGR conduit is coupled to an exhaust manifold of the engine at a first end of the EGR conduit. A second end of the EGR conduit passes through the port and extends into the air conduit at the bend defining an ejector mixing the charge air and exhaust gas before entry into the engine. A pressure sensor is positioned in the bend indicating a pressure of EGR gas exiting the bend.

Exhaust gas recirculation control in a dynamic skip fire engine

A system and method of integrating an engine having dynamic skip fire control with an exhaust gas recirculation system in a turbocharged internal combustion engine is described. An engine control system determines an appropriate firing pattern based at least in part on a desired exhaust gas recirculation flow rate. Signals from sensors in the intake manifold and exhaust system may also be used as part of a feedback loop to determine a desired exhaust gas recirculation flow rate.

METHOD OF ESTIMATING ACTUAL EGR RATIO IN EGR SYSTEM AND EGR SYSTEM

A controller, in shifting the state of the EGR system from the EGR operating state to the EGR non-operating state at the time of performing the deceleration of the vehicle, calculates a provisional EGR ratio that is a provisional value of the current EGR ratio, estimates the provisional EGR ratio as the actual EGR ratio when a fore-and-aft differential pressure of the EGR valve is equal to or more than a predetermined value, performs correction to make the provisional EGR ratio smaller, and estimates the corrected provisional EGR ratio as the actual EGR ratio when the fore-and-aft differential pressure of the EGR valve is less than the predetermined value.

Proposed is a gas heat-pump system capable of supplying recirculation exhaust gas to an engine using an exhaust gas turbocharger and thus actively controlling an amount of the flowing recirculation exhaust gas and pressure thereof.

Method and systems for airflow control

Various methods and systems are provided for controlling emissions. In one example, a controller is configured to respond to one or more of intake manifold air temperature (MAT), intake air flow rate, or a sensed or estimated intake oxygen fraction by changing an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) amount to maintain particulate matter (PM) and NOx within a range, and then further adjusting the EGR amount based on NOx sensor feedback.

MASS FLOW MEASUREMENT SYSTEM USING ADAPTIVE CALIBRATION AND SENSOR DIAGNOSTICS

New and/or alternative approaches to determine mass flow using a flow measurement device in a pulsatile flow context. The flow measurement device is configured to generate a delta-pressure measurement. A semi-physical valve model is generated for the flow measurement device, and the delta-pressure measurement is then is isolated using the model. A discharge coefficient map is determined for the flow measurement device by testing using sets of operating parameters for a system. The operating parameters of the system are then used to determine the discharge coefficient for use in estimating mass flow with the semi-physical valve model. The resultant estimated mass flow can be used to control the system, and a Factor of Effective Area estimate generated using the valve model can be used to determine the status of the flow measurement device and identify or predict a need for maintenance.

A method and apparatus for controlling part load mode engine torque are provided. The method includes setting a limitation of part load mode engine torque based on a current traveling environment and calculating a first engine torque variation in the basis of state information of a battery.
