Purge pump control systems and methods

A fuel vapor control system for a vehicle includes a fuel vapor canister that traps fuel vapor from a fuel tank of the vehicle. A purge valve opens to allow fuel vapor flow to an intake system of an engine and closes to prevent fuel vapor flow to the intake system of the engine. An electrical pump pumps fuel vapor from the fuel vapor canister to the purge valve. A vent valve allows fresh air flow to the vapor canister when the vent valve is open and prevents fresh air flow to the vapor canister when the vent valve is closed. A purge control module controls a speed of the electrical pump, opening of the purge valve, and opening of the vent valve.

Method and apparatus for controlling fuel pressure

An engine fuel system includes a fuel delivery system including a first fuel pump that is coupled to a pressure relief valve that is arranged in parallel with a second fuel pump. The first fuel pump is disposed to deliver pressurized fuel to the second fuel pump and the pressure relief valve, and the second fuel pump is disposed to deliver pressurized fuel to the fuel rail. A controller characterizes the first fuel pump to determine a relationship between a fuel pump speed and a fuel pump current at a setpoint pressure for the pressure relief valve. A feed-forward pump speed command is determined based upon a target fuel pressure and a fuel flowrate. A closed-loop pump speed is commanded based upon the characterization of the fuel pump. The first fuel pump is controlled to deliver fuel to the second fuel pump based thereon.

A fuel injection control apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes a low pressure fuel pump, a low pressure fuel passage, a high pressure fuel pump, a high pressure fuel passage, a fuel injection valve, a high pressure controller, and a low pressure controller. The low pressure controller calculates a feedforward correction amount that increases as a request injection amount of the fuel injection valve increases and an increase rate of the high pressure target value increases when a high pressure target value increases. The low pressure controller calculates a feedback correction amount based on a low-side pressure deviation when the high pressure target value increases. The low pressure controller controls driving of the low pressure fuel pump based on a sum of the feedforward correction amount and the feedback correction amount.

Controller for internal combustion engine

A controller for an internal combustion engine is configured, when the speed of combustion of a fuel in a cylinder changes as the property of the fuel injected from a fuel injection valve changes, to change a combustion limit excess air ratio that is a target value of a fuel injection amount feedforward control according to a first relationship that the combustion limit excess air ratio increases as the speed of combustion of the fuel in the cylinder increases. The controller is also configured, when the speed of combustion of the fuel in the cylinder changes as the property of the fuel injected from the fuel injection valve changes, to change the value of a combustion limit combustion speed parameter that is the target value of a fuel injection amount feedback control according to a second relationship that the speed of combustion of the fuel in the cylinder corresponding to a combustion limit increases as the speed of combustion of the fuel in the cylinder increases.

An integrated control system and method which improves load application/rejection performance for diesel generating sets is disclosed. Feedback-linearizing control is used for voltage regulation, which removes interaction between automatic voltage regulation and speed regulation. A proper feed-forward signal is sent to the governor using load anticipation control. The integrated control reduces engine speed and voltage deviations. It is implemented in the voltage regulator, since it recognizes load changes before the engine. The integrated control helps the engine anticipate throttle adjustments in advance of load being recognized by the engine. Test results show an improvement in engine speed recovery after a large increase or decrease in load.

Fueling strategy for controlled-autoignition engines

Methods and systems for controlling combustion performance of an engine during recompression HCCI combustion are provided. The method includes regulating a valve actuation timing and a fuel injection timing to cause a combustion phasing of at least one cylinder of the engine to approach a target combustion phasing, and estimating current combustion state information based on the combustion phasing. The current combustion state information includes at least one of a temperature, a pressure, and a pre-combustion charge composition associated with the at least one cylinder. The method further includes determining a target fuel injection amount, and determining whether the target fuel injection amount would require actuator settings that violate predetermined constraints in order to cause the combustion phasing to approach the target combustion phasing. A fuel injection amount is adjusted when the target fuel injection amount would require actuator settings that violate the predetermined constraints.

An engine includes a fuel injector. The fuel injector includes a valve body and an electromagnetic part that moves by energizing the valve body from a valve-closed position to a valve-open position. The fuel injector injects fuel when the valve body is moved to the valve-open position. In fuel injection, an ECU feeds a pre-charge current smaller than a current for operating the valve body, to the electromagnetic part in a pre-charge period at the beginning of a start of energization, and subsequently feeds a drive current for operating the valve body, to the electromagnetic part. Further, the ECU acquires a current change parameter as a parameter correlated with a speed of a rising change in drive current, and controls the feed of the pre-charge current to the electromagnetic part of the fuel injector, based on the acquired current change parameter.

Fuel vapor system diagnostic systems and methods

A fuel vapor system for a vehicle includes a fuel vapor canister that traps fuel vapor from a fuel tank of the vehicle. A purge valve opens to allow fuel vapor flow to an intake system of an engine and closes to prevent fuel vapor flow to the intake system of the engine. An electrical pump pumps fuel vapor from the fuel vapor canister to the purge valve. A diagnostic module (a) selectively diagnoses a fault in the fuel vapor system based on at least one of: (i) a speed of the electrical pump measured using a pump speed sensor; and (ii) a pressure at a location between the electrical pump and the purge valve, and (b) illuminates a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) within a passenger cabin of the vehicle when the fault is diagnosed.

The determination unit determines whether a movable portion of an electromagnetic valve has been moved to a closed position to close the electromagnetic valve when the electromagnetic valve is energized. The acquisition unit acquires, as an electromagnetic-valve response time, a period of time from a start of the energization of the electromagnetic valve until when it is determined that the electromagnetic valve has been closed. The electric power setting unit sets a supply power to the electromagnetic valve by repeating a process in which the supply power to the electromagnetic valve is reduced so as to be smaller than a previous value until the electromagnetic-valve response time reaches a predefined upper limit value.
