System and method for compensation of turbo lag in hybrid vehicles
11254298 · 2022-02-22 · ·

A system and method for compensation of turbo lag in hybrid vehicles is disclosed. The system identifies a zero boost power limit of the engine and a torque curve power limit. A turbocharger dynamic model is then developed based on measurements of the input engine power and the output max available engine power. The model is used to determine an overall propulsion power limit based on the combination of the engine and motor in operation. A power request by the driver may then be limited to the overall propulsion power limit to compensate for the effect of the turbocharger when propelling the vehicle using both the engine and motor and better simulate the engine-only response.

System and method for evaluating operating capability of a prime mover

A method of evaluating operating capability of a prime mover includes: starting the prime mover with a minimum load requirement threshold; obtaining a reference prime mover operation parameter for the prime mover; comparing the reference prime mover operation parameter with a standard prime mover operation parameter to determine a reference matrix; and adjusting via a TRS controller a standard operation threshold based on the reference matrix to obtain an optimal operation threshold.

ENGINE CONTROLLER

The engine controller includes an acceleration input detector that detects an accelerator pedal motion, a fuel injection amount calculator that calculates a target fuel injection amount, a fuel injection controller that controls the fuel injector, an EGR valve opening calculator that calculates a target EGR valve opening, and an EGR controller that controls the EGR valve. The EGR controller controls, after the accelerator pedal motion has been given, the EGR valve in a direction to decrease an opening of the EGR valve to a target EGR valve opening corresponding to a running condition to be reached after the accelerator pedal motion has been given. The control of the EGR valve opening is started before the fuel injection controller controls the fuel injector based on the target fuel injection amount calculated by the fuel injection amount calculator based on the accelerator pedal motion.

Disclosed is a method for controlling a speed of a vehicle combustion engine, the engine including at least one combustion chamber, into which a mixture of air and fuel is injected, and an air box, configured to inject the air into the combustion chamber and having an air flow rate controlled by a regulating butterfly valve, the regulating butterfly valve having a variable angular position, controlled by a predetermined position of an actuator. The method includes the steps of evaluating a so-called “load” resistant torque resulting from a plurality of external loads applied to the engine, determining, from the calculated load resistant torque, a position of the actuator, so as to determine an angular position of the regulating butterfly valve, and controlling the position of the actuator, so as to control the engine speed.

SKIP FIRE TRANSITION CONTROL

A variety of methods and arrangements are described for controlling transitions between firing fractions during skip fire operation of an engine in order to help reduce undesirable NVH consequences and otherwise smooth the transitions. In general, both feed forward and feedback control are utilized in the determination of the firing fractions during transitions such that the resulting changes in the firing fraction better track cylinder air charge changing dynamics associated with the transition.

A method and system for operating a vehicle that includes an integrated starter/generator and a driveline disconnect clutch is described. In one example, the method estimates engine torque as a function of engine temperature during cold engine starts so that if an estimate of engine torque is in error, the integrated starter/generator may still successfully start the engine.

The vibration prediction module predicts a modal response of a vehicle based on a firing sequence of an engine when a cylinder of the engine is deactivated. The firing sequence module adjusts the firing sequence of the engine based on the predicted modal response of the vehicle.

Method for controlling an internal combustion engine

A method controls an internal combustion engine having a drive output shaft that is coupled to an input shaft of a transmission. The internal combustion engine and the transmission are encompassed by a drivetrain for the drive of a motor vehicle. The method includes determining a rotational speed of the drive output shaft of the internal combustion engine and determining a rotational acceleration of the drive output shaft based on the rotational speed of the drive output shaft. A dynamic torque of the internal combustion engine is determined as a product of the rotational acceleration and a dynamic moment of inertia of the internal combustion engine. A maximum combustion torque of the internal combustion engine is determined from a sum of a predetermined maximum torque at the input shaft of the transmission and the dynamic load torque of the internal combustion engine.
