An EGR device includes a plurality of EGR inlet pipes connected to each of the plurality of intake branch passages, an exhaust gas inlet passage conveying a portion of the exhaust gas as EGR gas, an upstream-side branch passage in communication with the exhaust gas inlet passage and branching the EGR gas, and a downstream-side branch passage distributing the EGR gas branched in the upstream-side branch passage to the plurality of EGR inlet pipes. The downstream-side branch passage extends in a direction parallel to an arrangement direction of the plurality of cylinders. At least one of the exhaust gas inlet passage and the upstream-side branch passage is configured to suppress flow to a downstream side of condensed water located upstream of the downstream-side branch passage when acceleration in a direction parallel to the arrangement direction is applied to the internal combustion engine.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR CONTROLLING AIR FLOW PATHS IN AN ENGINE
20170335805 · 2017-11-23 ·

Methods and systems are provided for controlling a temperature of gases within a heat exchanger, a ratio of gases output by the heat exchanger, and selectively charging/discharging gases from the heat exchanger to one or both of an intake system or an exhaust system. In one example, a method may include controlling operation of an energy recovery device coupled to the heat exchanger in response to engine operating conditions, and increasing or decreasing flow of exhaust gas and/or compressed intake air into the heat exchanger in response to energy recovery device output.

EGR COOLER

An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler includes: a housing including a cavity in which a plurality of tubes are received, and including a coolant inlet conduit allowing a coolant to flow into the cavity therethrough and a coolant outlet conduit allowing the coolant to be discharged from the cavity therethrough; a bypass conduit provided in parallel to the housing; an inlet header sealingly mounted on a first end portion of the housing; and an outlet header sealingly mounted on a second end portion of the housing. The inlet header may include an EGR valve housing, a bypass valve housing, and a cooling chamber defined in the EGR valve housing and the bypass valve housing, and the cooling chamber may be fluidly connected to the cavity of the housing through the coolant outlet conduit.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR AN EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION COOLER

Methods and systems are provided for an EGR cooler having first and second coolant jackets fluidly coupled to first and second coolant systems, respectively. In one example, the first and second coolant jackets are hermetically sealed from one another. Furthermore, the second coolant jacket protrudes into a portion of an exhaust gas passage directly downstream of an exhaust aftertreatment device.
