Emissions reduction system for an internal combustion engine
A system for an internal combustion engine can include a separation device and an engine component including first and second valves. The separation device can separate intake air into a volume of nitrogen-rich air and a volume of oxygen-rich air. A first valve element can be movable relative to a first valve body and can have an annular shape disposed about a central axis of the combustion chamber. The first valve body can be fluidly coupled to the separation device and direct the oxygen-rich air into a central area of the combustion chamber. A second valve element can be movable relative to a second valve body and can have an annular shape disposed about the central axis, radially outward of the first valve. The second valve body can be fluidly coupled to the separation device and can direct the nitrogen-rich air to a peripheral area of the combustion chamber.
Partial forced induction system
A partial forced induction system is provided that has one or more combustion engine cylinders with each engine cylinder having a first and a second intake valve with individual ports. A source of forced induction in fluid communication with the one or more combustion engine cylinders and urging air into the one or more combustion engine cylinders. A naturally aspirated intake manifold path connecting to each of the first intake valves at each of said one or more engine cylinders. A forced induction intake manifold path connects the source of forced induction to each of said second intake valves at each of the one or more engine cylinders.
Intake manifold with integrated charge air cooler with two circuits
An intake device is provide for drawing in fresh gas and feeding the same to an internal combustion engine with internal combustion, wherein the intake device is suited for the formation of a fresh gas vortex in a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine. The intake device includes a first manifold section, from which all first parts of fresh gas line groups branch off to a fresh gas outlet end, and a second manifold section, from which all second parts of the fresh gas line groups branch off to the fresh gas outlet end, which are fluidically separated from each other from the separation point to the fresh gas outlet end. A vortex throttle assembly is provided in a first manifold section and the amount throttle device is provided in the second manifold section.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ENGINE COMBUSTION
A combustion system for use with one or more cylinder bores of an internal combustion engine includes at least one cylinder head defining first and second intake ports in fluid communication with the one or more cylinder bores. A flap is adjustably connected to the at least one cylinder head. The flap includes a first flap portion cooperating with the first intake port extending from an arm and a second flap portion cooperating with the second intake port extending from the arm and disposed adjacent the first flap portion. A controller in electrical communication with an actuator monitors the condition of the engine and actuates the flap to position the first and second flap portions between first and second positions to create a first combustion condition and a second combustion condition.
Control device for internal combustion engine
A control device for an internal combustion engine includes first and second intake ports (16a, 16b) independent of each other, and first and second fuel injection valves (30a, 30b) provided for the first and second intake ports (16a, 16b), respectively, in each cylinder. Under a situation where an exhaust variable valve mechanism (38) is controlled such that a first exhaust valve (32a) is opened earlier than a second exhaust valve (32b), first and second air-fuel ratios A/F1, A/F2 are respectively obtained in a first half and a second half of an exhaust stroke. When the obtained first air-fuel ratio A/F1 (or the second air-fuel ratio A/F2) is lean, a fuel injection amount in a next cycle by the first or second fuel injection valve (30a, 30b) corresponding to the first air-fuel ratio A/F1 (or the second air-fuel ratio A/F2) that is lean is reduced.
