Ducted fuel injection

Various technologies presented herein relate to enhancing mixing inside a combustion chamber to form one or more locally premixed mixtures comprising fuel and charge-gas with low peak fuel to charge-gas ratios to enable minimal, or no, generation of soot and other undesired emissions during ignition and subsequent combustion of the locally premixed mixtures. To enable sufficient mixing of the fuel and charge-gas, a jet of fuel can be directed to pass through a bore of a duct causing charge-gas to be drawn into the bore creating turbulence to mix the fuel and the drawn charge-gas. The duct can be located proximate to an opening in a tip of a fuel injector. The duct can comprise of one or more holes along its length to enable charge-gas to be drawn into the bore, and further, the duct can cool the fuel and/or charge-gas prior to combustion.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR A FUEL INJECTOR ASSEMBLY

Methods and systems are provided for injecting fuel through three different rows of injector nozzles, where each row of the injector nozzle is arranged along a different vertical plane of the injector body. In one example, an injector needle housed movably inside the injector body may supply high-pressure fuel to each of the rows of injector nozzles sequentially to deliver up to five fuel injections in one actuation cycle of the fuel injector. In another example, a fuel injector may include three injector needles, where movement of each injector needle inside a respective chamber of the fuel injector body may supply high-pressure fuel to the chamber from where the fuel may be injected through the coupled fuel injector nozzles.

Passive prechamber direct injection combustion

An injector-igniter assembly includes a passive prechamber and a fuel injector. In an internal combustion engine, fuel is directly injected into a combustion chamber to mix with air in the combustion chamber. Embodiments enable filing the prechamber at different air-fuel-ratio than the main chamber without directly filling the prechamber with fuel. The prechamber has jet apertures in fluid communication with the combustion chamber. In operation, fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber though nozzles to form a cloud adjacent to openings into the prechamber. Subsequently, mixed fuel and air is ingested into the prechamber from the combustion chamber and ignited. The degree of mixing prior to ingestion into the prechamber can be controlled using different nozzles configurations. Ignited gaseous fuel and air is expelled from the prechamber through the jet apertures and into the combustion chamber as a flaming jet with a core of gaseous fuel.

Direct injection diesel engine

A fuel injection nozzle disposed in a center of a reentrant cavity combustion chamber has first and second nozzle hole groups whose inclination angles with respect to a cylinder center axis line are different.
