Wear limiter for centrifugal clutch
11788587 · 2023-10-17 · ·

A centrifugal clutch of a transport refrigeration unit incorporating a wear limiter includes a drum, a hub, at least two friction pad assemblies, and at least one spring (e.g., leaf or coil) between each respective friction pad assembly. The wear limiter may be configured as part of the leaf spring, as part of the friction pad assemblies, and/or as a standalone component. The wear limiter is configured to prevent the radially outward facing surface of at least one friction pad assembly from engaging the internally facing surface of the drum when the centrifugal clutch is in the extended position and the friction material of at least one friction pad assembly is worn to a worn thickness. This may prevent the centrifugal clutch from engaging when the friction pad is worn.

Shear pin and drive shaft spring brake in electrical submersible pump

An electrical submersible well pump assembly (ESP) has a spring brake having helical turns mounted between the shaft and one of the housings. The spring brake allows free rotation of the shaft in a driving direction and stops the shaft from rotating in a reverse direction. The spring brake may have one end be affixed to the housing to rotate in unison in both directions. Alternately, the spring brake may have one end affixed to the shaft for rotation with the shaft. Further, the spring brake could be free of being connected to either the shaft or the housing. A shear member may be mounted between the shaft and the housing to prevent any rotation of the shaft during run-in.

Centrifugal clutch

Provided is a centrifugal clutch configured so that a clutch weight can be smoothly displaced without interference with backward displacement of the clutch weight in a rotary drive direction of a drive plate and assist thrust can be stably generated. A centrifugal clutch 200 includes, through swing support pins 214, clutch weights 230 on a drive plate 210 to be rotatably driven by drive force of an engine, and includes plate-side cam bodies 218 and dampers 221. The clutch weight 230 turnably displaces to a clutch outer 240 side through the swing support pin 214, and includes a weight-side cam body 235 configured to climb on the plate-side cam body 218 and a damper groove 236. The damper groove 236 is formed such that a groove width W2 for fitting the damper 221 when the clutch weight 230 is at a clutch-ON position is wider to a front side in a rotary drive direction of the drive plate 210 than a groove width W1 for fitting the damper 221 when the clutch weight 230 is at a clutch-OFF position.
