ALUMINUM CLUTCH COMPONENTS WITH FERROUS SURFACE
Components for an automatic motor vehicle transmission including a band brake drum, a clutch housing or hub having a seal surface or a clutch housing or hub utilized in a friction clutch assembly having a spline set. All of these components are fabricated of aluminum and the outer surface of the band brake drum, the housing or hub sealing surface and the area of the spline set includes a thin coating of a thermally sprayed steel material. The thermally sprayed steel material may be a low carbon steel such as SAE 1008 or 1010, a similar alloy, iron or other metal. The resulting components thus exhibit the weight saving of aluminum while providing excellent service life due to the enhanced strength and wear resistance provided by the thermally sprayed steel coating.

MOTION CONTROL SYSTEMS, DEVICES, AND METHODS FOR ROTARY ACTUATORS SYSTEMS
Motion control systems, devices, and methods are operable for controlling rotary motion of an actuated device. In one aspect, a motion control device is coupled between an external motive input (200) and a rotary output device (300). The motion control device has a brake core (110) configured to produce an electromagnetic field when an electric current is applied. A brake band (130) made of a magnetically responsive material surrounds the brake core (110) and is coupled to the brake core (110) when the electric current is applied. A rotor (120) that is coupled to both the external motive input (200) and the rotary output surrounds at least the perimeter of the brake band (130) and is coupled to the brake band (130) for rotation together. When the electric current is applied, the rotor (120) and the brake core (110) are thus rotatably locked together to control rotary motion generated by actuating forces imparted by the external motive input (200).
MECHANICALLY RELEASED BRAKE FOR A MOWING MACHINE
A brake apparatus for restricting rotation of a rotatable member of a mowing machine, thereby controlling rotation of a wheel of the mowing machine, includes a brake member fixable on the rotatable member, and a gripping member for engaging and disengaging the brake member for restricting or permitting rotation of the rotatable member. A thrust link is coupled to the gripping member such that movement of the thrust link causes the gripping member to engage or disengage a radially outer surface of the brake member. For example, the gripping member may be biasedly engaged with at least a partial circumferential extent of the brake member such that actuation of the thrust link causes disengagement of the gripping member from the brake member.
