A variable force tensioner (VFT) system that includes a primary piston split into two chambers disposed within a primary bore. The two chambers including a first low pressure chamber having a primary reservoir therein that feeds fluid through a check valve into a second high pressure chamber to control a biasing force on the primary piston. A piston bore clearance path can extend along a groove in the primary bore to feed oil back to the primary reservoir from the high pressure chamber.

A line strainer for use in an electric fence system is described. The line strainer includes a unitary body made of electrically non-conductive material, having two opposing arms, a spool mounting element for rotatably mounting an electrically conductive spool having at least one toothed flange between the arms of the body, wherein the spool is configured to have a first line secured to it. The line strainer further includes a line bearing support member about which a second line is to be passed and tensioned. A releasable pawl is attached to the unitary body and configured to engage with the at least one toothed flange to restrict rotation of the spool in one direction when the spool is rotatably mounted to the spool mounting element.

A chain tensioner includes an oil supply passage for supplying hydraulic oil into a pressure chamber defined by a cylinder and a plunger, and a check valve provided at the end of the oil supply passage. A leak gap is defined between the sliding surfaces of the cylinder and the plunger. The plunger is biased by a return spring in the direction in which the plunger protrudes out of the cylinder. A plug is press-fitted in a cylindrical inner periphery of a through hole formed in the plunger to extend from a protruding end surface of the plunger to the pressure chamber to define an air vent passage. It is possible to change the hydraulic damper force simply by replacing the plug with another different type of plug to define a different air vent passage.

A hydraulic tensioner includes a tensioner housing having a bore extending a length, with a slot along the length of the bore. A hollow piston is slidably received within the bore and has an outer circumference with a chamfer adjacent a formed edge. An expandable circlip is received by the outer circumference of the piston. The circlip includes a substantially clover shaped body with a plurality of lobes connected to a first leg and a second leg through connecting portions. The expandable circlip has a free state, in which the lobes of the circlip are engaged with at least the chamfer of the piston, and an expanded state, in which the first leg and the second leg are moved away from each other, disengaged from the chamfer. When the expandable circlip is in the free state, the piston is prevented from being ejected from the bore of the housing.

To provide a simple-structured tensioner that generates less knocking noise at the start-up of the engine and that prevents an excessive chain tension, severe friction, noise or vibration during the running of the engine, while also reducing production costs. The tensioner includes a ring control mechanism that controls the position of a resilient ring. The ring control mechanism includes a front-side restricting part having a front-side restricting surface and capable of restricting forward movement of the resilient ring, and a rear-side restriction member having a rear-side restricting surface and capable of restricting rearward movement of the resilient ring. The front-side restricting part is fixed to or formed integrally with the housing. The rear-side restriction member is disposed movable in a front to back direction relative to the housing and the plunger.

A hydraulic tensioner includes piston retaining, anti-return, and anti-rotation functions. A ratchet clip for the tensioner preferably has straight sides or legs substantially perpendicular to a connecting portion. The ratchet clip preferably is substantially rectangular or U-shaped. The ends of the ratchet clip opposite the connecting portion are preferably bent inwards after the ratchet clip has been assembled on the tensioner. The ratchet clip performs the piston retaining function, the anti-rotation function and the anti-return functions. It is unnecessary for the user to remove the ratchet clip after the tensioner is assembled on the engine.
