The present invention includes a milk-derived polypeptide derivative, composition and its method for using. The milk-derived polypeptide together with its cell penetrating peptide derivatives can slow down body weight gain of mice induced by high-fat diet, reduce blood glucose, serum triglycerides and insulin levels, and improve insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance. In addition, it can function to reduce body weight and blood glucose of already established obese mice model. Therefore, it has potentials to prepare drugs, health care products and food additives for preventing and treating obesity and its complications and other related diseases.

Methods of Treatment

The invention provides a method of treating a disorder characterised by elevated or dysregulated myostatin, disorders where the interaction between follistatin and angiogenin can be used to improve function in tissues, neurological diseases or disorders, spinal injuries or diseases, bone diseases or disorders, diseases involving glucose homeostasis, wound healing, neuroprotection, nervous system functional support or managing metabolic diseases, the method comprising administering an effective amount of angiogenin or an angiogenin agonist. Compositions and neutraceuticals comprising angiogenin are also provided.

Advantageously, the protein material is suitable for hypoallergenic infant formulae.
