Envelope gasket

An envelope gasket features a bonded construction. In one example, a virgin PTFE envelope is bonded to a pair of microcellular or expanded PTFE filler material annular rings. The PTFE filler annular rings are then bonded together around a corrugated metal insert ring (on the inner and outer diameter), thus sealing inside microcellular or expanded PTFE. Alternatively, when using expanded graphite filler material annular rings, the PTFE envelope is bonded to the expanded graphite filler rings by pressure and heat, and the filler rings are bonded to each other by pressure during the bonding process.

Disclosed, among other things, are ways to manufacture reduced density thermoplastics using rapid solid-state foaming and machines useful for the saturation of plastic. In one embodiment, a foaming process may involve saturating a semi-crystalline polymer such as Polylactic Acid (PLA) with high levels of gas, and then heating, which may produce a reduced density plastic having high levels of crystallinity. In another embodiment, a foaming process may produce layered structures in reduced density plastics with or without integral skins. In another embodiment, a foaming process may produce deep draw structures in reduced density plastics with or without integral skins. In yet another embodiment, a foaming process may utilize additives, blends, or fillers, for example. In yet another embodiment, a foaming process may involve saturating a semi-crystalline polymer such as Polylactic Acid (PLA) with high levels of gas, and then heating, which may produce a reduced density plastic having high levels of crystallinity.

Knitted wire carrier for weather seal insert support with lockstitched reinforcing wire

This invention provides a knitted wire carrier for use in constructing a (e.g.) automotive weather seal that incorporates a locking stitch formed from a relatively incompressible and expansion-resisting material that passes through at least one of the warp threads adjacent to the wire weft. In an embodiment, the locking stitch constructed from a steel (or another metal) wire that is solid or braided. In other embodiments, the locking stitch can be constructed from fiberglass, monofilament polymer or another similarly performing material. In an embodiment, the lockstitch wire is constructed from approximately 0.5-millimeter diameter steel and the wire carrier is constructed from approximately 0.5-0.91-millimeter diameter steel. The wire lockstitch can be woven through a center warp yarn that is surrounded by other knitted warp yarns along the overall weft of the wire carrier. The wire carrier is coated with an adhesive, e.g., latex to maintain the knit in place.

COMPRESSIBLE LIQUID SEALS WITH DISCONTINUOUS ADHESIVES

A compressible seal (400A) includes a compressible body (406) having a first surface (410) and a second surface. A pattern of discontinuous adhesive regions (412) is formed of an adhesive connected with at least one of the first surface (410) or the second surface of the compressible body (406). The compressible body (406) is operable to conform around the pattern of adhesive regions (412) to prevent fluid ingress when the compressible body (406) is compressed.

Additive manufacturing of elastomeric seals for repair

A method of modifying or repairing a fluid conduit assembly includes scanning a sealing feature of a fluid conduit, the sealing feature including an abnormality, creating a 3D model of a sealing member configured to provide a fluid seal with the sealing feature, and utilizing the 3D model to form the sealing member via additive manufacturing. The method may include modifying the sealing feature of the fluid conduit to reduce or remove the abnormality and provide the sealing feature with modified dimensions. Scanning the sealing feature may include determining the modified dimensions of the sealing feature.

Graphite Foil, Sheet Material on the Basis thereof, Seal and Production Method

Flexible graphite foil is produced from thermally expanded graphite. The foil comprises amorphous carbon and exhibits improved tightness and low leakage. The foil with is made of a composition comprising compressed TEG and amorphous carbon, wherein said composition is obtained from intercalated graphite with different graphite matrix oxidation degrees, and said composition comprises amorphous carbon in amounts corresponding to maximum I.sub.D/I.sub.G ratio values, depending on the oxidation degree, where I.sub.G and I.sub.D are scattered radiation intensity peaks in the frequency ranges of 1500-1630 cm.sup.−1 and 1305-1395 cm.sup.−1 for graphite and amorphous carbon, respectively, measured by Raman spectroscopy, depending on the oxidation degree of the above-mentioned intercalated graphite, whereby the maximum I.sub.D/I.sub.G ratio for each oxidation degree is greater than, or equal to, 0.05. Additionally, a sheet material based on such foil, a sealing and a method of the claimed foil production are disclosed.

HALO seal build clearance methods

A method for assembling a seal arrangement may comprise applying an adhesive to a seal, applying a force to a shoe of the seal, and removing the force from the shoe, wherein the adhesive secures the shoe with respect to a static structure in response to the force being removed.
