Method for manufacturing sealing device, and sealing device

[Problem] To provide a method for manufacturing a sealing device having high pressure-resistance and high durability. Provided is a method for manufacturing a sealing device to be provided between a shaft and an inner surface of a shaft hole in which the shaft is provided, the method comprising: a step for forming an atmosphere-side rigid ring by forming a through-hole in a rigid body by a punching-out process; a step for causing a reinforcement ring for reinforcing an elastic ring to contact the elastic ring in a direction parallel to the axial direction of the shaft, wherein the elastic ring is made of an elastic body, is attached to a liquid-side rigid ring made of a rigid body and disposed inside the shaft hole, is disposed radially inward of the liquid-side rigid ring, and has formed thereon a seal lip that slidably makes sealing contact with the shaft; and a step for causing the atmosphere-side rigid ring to contact the reinforcement ring in a direction parallel to the axial direction of the shaft so that a surface contacted by an end surface of a punch during the punching-out process of the atmosphere-side rigid ring is positioned on an opposite side to the reinforcement ring.

MULTI-POSITION CRANKSHAFT LIP SEAL

Various systems and methods are provided for utilizing a crankshaft lip seal over the course of a first overhaul life and a second overhaul life. In one example, a method includes installing the crankshaft lip seal between a flywheel housing and a crankshaft of an engine and operating the engine with the crankshaft lip seal. The method further includes removing the crankshaft lip seal, re-machining a floating seal sleeve coupled to the crankshaft or the flywheel housing, and replacing a lip. The crankshaft lip seal is then re-installed between the flywheel housing and the crankshaft and the engine operated with the re-installed crankshaft lip seal.

A sleeve for a lip seal assembly includes a rigid portion with a tubular section having an inner surface defining a bore for receiving a shaft and an outer surface providing a seal engagement surface, and a radial flange extending from an axial end of the tubular section. An elastomeric portion attached to the rigid portion has a tubular section disposed within the rigid portion bore and a lip extending axially outwardly from one axial end of the tubular section so as to be disposed externally of the rigid portion bore and having a sealing surface engageable with the shaft outer surface, and may have another lip extending axially from the opposing axial end. The axial lip(s) reduce installation forces, retain lubricant within the sleeve bore during shipping, handling, test shaft and plug installation and removal, and final shaft assembly, and the air side lip prevents leakage of assembly lubricant.

A seal ring includes: a static seal seat arranged inside the seal ring in a radial direction; and two sealing lips arranged outside the seal seat in the radial direction, the two sealing lips being axial sealing lips, one sealing lip of the axial sealing lips being a radially inner first and an other sealing lip of the axial sealing lips being a radially outer second axial sealing lip, the second axial sealing lip enclosing the first axial sealing lip at a radial distance on an outer circumference. The first axial sealing lip has greater flexibility in the radial direction than the second axial sealing lip. The second axial sealing lip has a surface structure radially externally on a side facing radially away from the first axial sealing lip, which surface structure is aerodynamically active during an intended use of the seal ring, so as to swirl an air layer.
