PIPELINE ISOLATION TOOL, ASSEMBLY & METHOD
20220290793 · 2022-09-15 ·

An isolation tool assembly for isolating a section of pipe includes a launcher, an adapter arrangement and an isolation tool. The launcher is configured to deploy and/or retrieve the isolation tool through a single opening in a wall of the pipe. The adapter arrangement is configured to couple a housing of the launcher to the pipe and a piston and a yoke of the launcher to the isolation tool via a linkage arrangement. The isolation tool includes a seal unit in the form of a seal module including annular primary and secondary seal elements. The seal module reconfigurable from a first configuration to a second, axially retracted, configuration, and movement of the seal module to the second, axially retracted, configuration urges the seal elements towards the wall of the pipe to isolate the section of pipe. The isolation tool includes a secondary activation arrangement configured to apply a force on an activating member of the primary activation arrangement to maintain the seal unit in the second configuration and maintain the isolation.

Assembly for engaging the interior of a pipe

An assembly is provided that includes first and second end plates adapted to be coaxially aligned when in use. One or more members extend from the end plates or an annular ring, the annular ring provided between the end plates, the other of the end plates or annular ring comprising one or more first slots at one end thereof to be aligned with and for receiving the one or more members of the first end plate, and one or more second slots at the other end thereof to be aligned with and for receiving the one or more members. Resilient sealing members are provided around the one or more members between the end plates and annular ring, and an urging mechanism urges the first and second end plates towards the annular ring to deform the first and second resilient sealing members to engage the inner wall of the pipe.

A sealing plug comprises the combination of a stem and sleeve, in which the stem is designed to have an external taper such that, on installation of the plug by a setting tool, sleeve material flows into a gap between the sleeve and taper to assist with locking the sleeve and stem together. Furthermore, the tool nose piece has a conical taper designed to cause sleeve material to flow, initially on installation, radially outward to effect locking of the plug into a blind hole into which it is being installed.

HEAT EXCHANGER TUBE PLUG

A heat exchange plug that plugs the aperture of a tubesheet with a leaking tube while also securing the tube against movement that could damage other tubes of the tubesheet. A cylindrical housing member with two different diameter body section can be inserted so that the wider diameter section is positioned in the aperture of the tubesheet and the smaller diameter section is located in the tube. An eccentric ring at the end of the housing member can engage the tube and prevent rotation as an insert member is advanced into the rear of the housing member via a threaded shank of the insert member that engages a threaded inner bore of the housing member. A ramped surface of the housing member deforms the wall of the larger diameter section of the housing member outwardly to plug the aperture while the smaller diameter section secures the tube in place.

Sealing assembly

A sealing assembly for use downhole may include a plug having a first end and a second end opposite the first end. The plug may have an expandable sealing member positioned between the first end and the second end of the plug. The expandable sealing member having a run-in-hole diameter and an expanded diameter that is greater than the run-in-hole diameter. A support device may extending at least partially between a first end of the plug and the expandable sealing member. The support device may include a recess. An elastomeric material may be positioned at least partially within the recess of the support device. A cover may be positioned at least partially over the support device for reducing extrusion of the elastomeric material from within the recess of the support device in the expanded diameter.
