Various embodiments of lightguides and illumination systems that include lightguides are disclosed. In one or more embodiments, a lightguide can include first and second light extractors (330,340) that extract light that would otherwise be confined and propagate within the lightguide along the length of the lightguide primarily by total internal reflection. The first and second light extractors can form respective first and second patterns along a length of the lightguide. Light extracted by the first light extractors can exit the lightguide primarily along a first direction (306). Light extracted by the second light extractors can exit the lightguide primarily along a second direction (308) different from the first direction. A brightness of the total light extracted by the first light extractors can be larger than a brightness of the total light extracted by the second light extractors.

In a vehicle door mirror device, a projection device projects a graphic from a graphic film. The projection device is inserted into a cap in a state in which a holding tube of the cap has been inserted into a through hole in a visor, and the holding tube is held between a peripheral face of the through hole and a protrusion portion of the projection device. The projection device is thus installed at the visor in a manner retained by the cap alone. This thereby enables easy installation of the projection device to the visor.

LIGHT DEVICE FOR MOTOR VEHICLES

The light device for motor vehicles comprises a carrier case, a translucent cover, and an inner chamber where the light source and a linear light guide are mounted. A part of the light guide's outer casing forms the output surface for exiting light rays. Light guide's body comprises an active part for output of light rays from the light device, and an inactive part not visible in viewing inner chamber through translucent cover. Light guide includes a case comprising two arms, either one having at least one contact area on its inner surface to attach light guide in its mounting position therebetween. The distance between the contact areas can be increased during introduction of the light guide into its mounting position, and subsequently reduced after mounting of light guide to a distance at which the light guide surface is in contact with the arm contact areas.

Vehicular lamp

A vehicular lamp includes a light source; and a light guide disposed such that light emitted from the light source is incident on an end face of the light guide. The light guide emits light, guided into its interior, heading vehicle-forward from an exit face of the light guide running along the light guide's lengthwise extension. The light guide includes reflection steps formed on a surface of the light guide on a side reverse from the exit face, for reflecting light guided into the light-guide interior toward the exit face; and a plurality of diffusion flutes formed on said end face, each being arcuate in substantially horizontal cross-section through said end face, and each being of constant form in substantially perpendicular extension.

LIGHTING ASSEMBLY WITH INTEGRATED OPTICAL DIFFUSER

An integrated lighting element assembly includes a transparent light-transmitting portion and an opaque or translucent optical diffuser. The light-transmitting portion has a light-transmitting surface. The optical diffuser is integrated or co-molded with the light-transmitting element to form a boundary of the light-transmitting surface. A light source is configured to direct incident light into the light-transmitting portion in response to a lighting control signal. A controller may generate the lighting control signal in response to activation of a user input device such as a turn signal lever or transmission mode selection lever. The optical diffuser may be parallel to and contiguous with the longitudinal surfaces of the light-transmitting element. A headlight assembly includes first and second headlights having respective low- and high-beam functions, and the lighting element assembly, which is positioned with respect to one of the headlights.
