FLOW HEATER WITH BYPASS PASSAGE

Disclosed is a flow heater with a housing having an inlet and an outlet. A flow passage for liquid that is to be heated runs from the inlet to the outlet. A heating plate is arranged as wall of a heated section of the flow passage. A bypass passage is provided in parallel to the heated section of the flow passage in order to guide any gas bubbles contained in the liquid from the fluid inlet to the fluid outlet without passing through the heated section of the flow passage.

The controller can receive inlet temperature measurements made by the first temperature sensor device and outlet temperature measurements made by the second temperature sensor device. The controller can also evaluate the inlet temperature measurements and the outlet temperature measurements using at least one lookup table and at least one algorithm. The controller can subsequently determine an input rate of fuel used to heat the fluid flowing through the heat exchanger.

A heat exchanger has a fluid flow passage having an inlet and an outlet, and with a first plate and a second plate in opposed facing relation to one another. The fluid flow passage is defined by a space between the inner surfaces of the first and second plates. An electrical heating element is outside the fluid flow passage and adjacent to the outer surface of the first plate, such that heat produced by the electrical heating element is transferred through the first plate to the fluid in the fluid flow passage during use of the heat exchanger. In an embodiment, the first plate has an opening to receive a heater plate component including a first plate portion having an inner surface bonded to a turbulence-enhancing insert and an outer surface bonded to the electrical heating element.
