A method of operating a refrigerator appliance includes monitoring humidity within a food storage compartment of the refrigerator appliance and comparing the monitored humidity level with a predetermined humidity threshold. In response to the monitored humidity level dropping below the predetermined humidity threshold, a mist of water is sprayed into the food storage compartment for a predetermined spraying time. The method also includes activating an ultraviolet light source to direct ultraviolet light into the food storage compartment for a predetermined lighting time. At least a portion of the predetermined lighting time is concurrent with the predetermined spraying time. The method also includes waiting a predetermined rest time before repeating the step of spraying the mist of water into the food storage compartment in response to the monitored humidity level below the predetermined humidity threshold.

Freezer dehumidification system

An augmented heat transfer system can be used to control the humidity of adjacent conditioned spaces by selectively absorbing latent heat energy from a relatively warm space, such as a loading dock, and discharging this energy in the form of sensible heat to an adjacent relatively cold space, such as a freezer served by the loading dock. This transfer of sensible heat energy into the cold space induces a vapor compression system to remove sufficient moisture from the cold space to avoid uncontrolled precipitation. At the same time, the process of removing moisture/latent heat from the warm space can also be used to reduce humidity in the warm space via condensation on a cold evaporator. Therefore, in operations where the warm space and the cold space are both nominally sealed from ambient air, such as an indoor loading dock serving a freezer, the augmented heat transfer system can eliminate uncontrolled precipitation in the freezer while also mitigating moisture ingress to the freezer from the dock space.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING HUMIDITY WITHIN A COMPARTMENT OF REFRIGERATION APPLIANCE

A controller within a refrigeration application controls temperature and humidity within a compartment of the refrigeration application. The controller may begin cooling the compartment based on a measured temperature value for the compartment. The controller may delay a starting time of an evaporator fan within the compartment based at least in part on a measured humidity value for the compartment. The controller may also adjust an operating time of a condenser fan based at least in part on the measured humidity value.

Refrigerator Moisture Removal System

This invention is embodied in a system for removing moisture from the air inside a refrigerated space. The preferred embodiment is configured to work on a typical refrigerator that employs a typical refrigerant system with a compressor and a condenser. The preferred embodiment works by fitting a water jacket to the exterior surface of the refrigerant line. The water jacket is connected by flexible tube to a cold plate inside the refrigerator. Preferably a pump circulates fluid between the water jacket and the cold plate. As a result, the cold plate gets colder than the air inside the refrigerator and induces condensation on the cold plate. The condensation can be directed to flow by gravity down to the refrigerator's drip pan.

A method for dehumidifying a refrigeration system especially to dehumidify a refrigerated transporting container is disclosed. The refrigeration system includes a refrigeration circuit including an evaporator, a compressor, an expansion valve and a condenser. The refrigeration system also includes a control unit and a cooling space, the evaporator is placed in the cooling space and air blows over the evaporator to be cooled down. The dehumidification method is stepwise, and the method includes a dehumidification mode and a re-establish mode. During the dehumidifying process the system shifts between the dehumidification mode and a re-establish mode stepwise dehumidifying the air in the container in such a way that the measured parameters especially the compartment temperature stays within acceptable limits.

Humidity control system

A controller adjusts a humidity level within an enclosed space. When it is determined to cool the enclosed space, a compressor speed and a compressor run time are determined for a compressor. When it is determined to increase a humidity of the enclosed space, the compressor speed is decreased relative to the compressor speed determined for the compressor, the compressor run time is increased relative to the compressor run time determined for the compressor, a fan is turned on to direct air through an evaporator and into the enclosed space, and a flow of refrigerant is controlled through a coil of the evaporator based on the decreased compressor speed and the increased compressor run time. When it is determined to stop cooling, the compressor is turned off. The fan is turned off when it is determined to end an increase humidity state.
