Heat exchange system and method of assembly

A method of constructing a coil wound heat exchange module and transporting and installing the coil wound heat exchange module at a plant site, such as an natural gas liquefaction plant. A module frame is constructed and attached to a heat exchanger shell prior to telescoping of a coil wound mandrel into the shell. The module frame includes a lug and two saddles that remain attached to the shell throughout the process and when the heat exchanger is operated. The lug and saddles are constructed and located to stabilize the shell during construction, telescoping and transport (when in a horizontal orientation), and when the shell is installed at the plant site (in a vertical orientation). The lugs and saddles are adapted to allow for thermal expansion and contraction of the shell when it is transitioned from ambient to operating temperature and vice versa.

Various embodiments include an apparatus for liquefying gas comprising: an inlet for a pressurized gas; a countercurrent heat exchanger with a first channel for the pressurized gas to flow in a first direction; an expansion nozzle, such that the pressurized gas flows from the first channel into the nozzle, and flows out to form an aerosol comprising a gaseous phase and liquid droplets; an aerosol breaker separating at least some of the droplets out of the gaseous phase; a collecting region for gathering and collecting droplets dripping off the aerosol breaker; and a second channel of the countercurrent heat exchanger surrounding the first channel. The flow of the gaseous phase out of the expansion nozzle is colder compared to the gas flowing through the second channel in a second direction opposite to the first direction. The second channel surrounds the first channel. The apparatus comprises a monolithic structure.

PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR ESTABLISHING VACUUM INSULATION UNDER CRYOGENIC CONDITION

A process for establishing vacuum insulation under cryogenic condition and an apparatus compatible with such process are described. When an insulation enclosure filled with high purity CO.sub.2 is evacuated to around 100 absolute Pa at ambient temperature, hard vacuum of below 1 absolute Pa may be automatically obtained within the insulation enclosure when temperature drops to around or below 170 C. This process can be employed to provide vacuum insulation for cold box housing air separation units operated under cryogenic condition.

CONDUIT SEAL ASSEMBLY

A conduit seal assembly includes an outer conduit having a first end with a first opening and a second end, opposite the first end, with a second opening. A first seal is positioned in the first opening for resisting a first temperature, and a second seal is positioned in the second opening for resisting a second temperature less than the first temperature. The first and second seals define a cavity and provide an air-tight seal of the cavity, and the assembly includes a monitoring assembly configured to sense a characteristic in the cavity.
