A method and system are described for a refrigerant distributor, and for attaching the distributor tubes to an evaporator coil. A short tube can inserted into the bell end of a tube and the hell end can be crimped around the short tube to lock it into place. The short tube preferably has a bead or widened shaft around which to crimp the bell. The disclosure is particularly beneficial for aluminum based components because aluminum is more susceptible to blockages or leaking due to problems from brazing.

The heat exchanger includes aluminum tubes mechanically rolled into an aluminum tube support and the tubes are fluidically sealed with the tube support. The aluminum tube support including the aluminum tubes rolled therein is assembled to a fluid manifold configured to allow fluid flow through the heat exchanger and into and/or out of the heat exchanger.

Methods are disclosed for fabricating heat exchangers and Heat Exchanger (HX) tubes, as are heat exchangers fabricated in accordance with such methods. In embodiments, the method includes fabricating an HX tube by at least partially forming the elongated tube body utilizing a cold spray process during which a metallic feedstock powder is deposited over a removable mandrel. The HX tube is separated from the removable mandrel at some juncture following cold spray deposition of the tube body.

TUBE BUNDLE HEAT EXCHANGER

A tube bundle heat exchanger having a tube sheet, an outer shell and an interior. The heat exchanger includes a tube bundle having tubes located in the interior for fluid flow. The tubes have outside ribs and a channel is formed between adjacent ribs. The tube sheet has openings as passage points. Outer fins of the tubes project into the openings, and a joint gap is formed between an inner surface defining the opening and the outer fins of a tube located therein. The tubes are bonded to the tube sheet by joining material with the involvement of the outer fins. The bond is only formed in a first portion of the opening. The first portion is filled with joining material such that a second portion of the opening remains which is not filled with joining material, and the tube has outer fins adjacent the second portion.

A module for constructing therefrom a heat exchanger is provided. The module includes two manifolds and a plurality of parallelly arranged mats spanning between the manifolds. Each mat includes a plurality of heat exchange tubes arranged so as to define a plane, the heat exchange tubes being in fluid communication with the manifolds and spanning therebetween. Each of the manifolds includes selectively sealable end openings formed in facing ends thereof and defining a longitudinal flow path substantially perpendicular to the tubes and parallel with the planes defined thereby. Each of the manifolds further includes selectively sealable side openings on facing sides thereof and each defining a lateral flow path substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal flow path and to the planes defined by the tubes.
