EXTENDED RANGE BULLET

A cartridge with an expanding bullet that has advantageous terminal effects over an extended range. The expanding bullet including a bullet body including a metal jacket extending from a tail portion to a nose portion and surrounding an interior solid core and defining a forward opening and interior cavity. A tip has an exterior surface substantially flush with an exterior surface of the metal jacket. The tip has a main portion forward of the opening and a tip retention portion that at least partially fills the interior cavity. In certain embodiments the tip retention portion includes one or more fluid entry facilitation means such as a fracture regions configured to, upon impact of the bullet with a target, fracture or deform to expose one or more fluid pathways into the interior cavity and to a forward facing interior surface for initiating expansion of the expanding bullet.

Enhanced Projectile for Precision Rifle Ammunition with more Uniform External ballistic performance and Enhanced Terminal Ballistic Performance

A ballistically enhanced projectile 360, 460 includes a body having a distal ogive section with external ballistic effect uniforming surface discontinuity (e.g., nose ring groove 369, 469) defined therein to provide an unsupported gap in the ogive profile which affects the flow of air over the front half of the ogive to provide greater aerodynamic uniformity and shot-to-shot consistency with more uniform observed external ballistics and superior terminal ballistics. The bullet's external surface discontinuity feature (369 or 469) creates effects in the flowfield that dominate any dynamic effects from bullet-to-bullet manufacturing inconsistency and resultant differences in dynamic behavior.

Passive Cavity Deflation for Impacting Bodies after Water Entry

A device is disclosed for deflating a gas cavity about a projectile formed upon entry of the projectile into a liquid. The device can include a wall coupleable with a body operable as a projectile and defining an exterior and an interior space. The wall can be oriented toward a trailing end relative to a leading end defined by the body. The device can also include at least one inlet to facilitate gas flow from the exterior to the interior space. An outlet can facilitate gas flow from the interior space to the exterior and can be oriented toward the trailing end relative to the at least one inlet. Upon entry of the body and the wall into a liquid and formation of a gas cavity about a portion of the body and the wall, the at least one inlet can be located within the gas cavity and the outlet can be located outside the gas cavity, such that gas flows from the exterior through the at least one inlet to the interior space, and from the interior space through the outlet to the exterior to deflate the gas cavity.

A streamlined projectile is disclosed that includes a base or rear having a plurality of concentric sections located within each other at the aft of the projectile and in successively smaller sizes. Within each concentric section is a chamber having a wall perpendicular to expanding combustion gasses, with the total area of these walls being greater than an area of the rear of the projectile itself. This creates a larger projectile base for a propellant to push against and for that explosion to be held within the section chamber for a longer period than that of a standard boattail or flat-tail projectile. In addition, the concentric sections at least partially negate atmospheric drag by occupying the region behind the projectile where a partial vacuum forms, resulting in a projectile that will go faster and further for a given propellant charge.
