CASING FOR A FRAGMENTATION WEAPON, FRAGMENTATION WEAPON, AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE
A casing for a fragmentation weapon has a fragmentation layer 1 of preformed fragments 3 slidably fitted within preformed cells 6 of a lattice 2 sandwiched between an inner casing layer 4 and outer casing layer 5. The casing is particularly suited to use in fragmentation weapons and warheads. Upon detonation of the weapon, the preformed fragments 3 can freely separate from their cells 6 without being attached to the lattice 2 or other fragments 3.
LITHOGRAPHIC FRAGMENTATION TECHNOLOGY
A fragmentation pattern is formed on a surface of a warhead using a lithographic process. A photoresistant material is coated on an interior surface of the warhead casing. A portion of the photoresistant material is selectively cured by projecting an image of the fragmentation pattern onto the photoresistant material. The uncured portion of the photoresistant material is removed and an etchant is applied to the exposed portion of the warhead casing surface thereby etching the fragmentation pattern. Alternatively, a protective coating is applied over the entire surface thereby creating the fragmentation pattern.
Increased lethality warhead for high acceleration environments
A warhead device of an ordnance including a body of a high strength material, where the body includes a plurality of depressions; an explosive material, where the explosive material fills the body; and a plurality of reactive materials, where each reactive material fills a corresponding depression of the plurality of depressions on the body. The high strength material is configured to endure an internal stress, a first stress caused by the plurality of reactive materials, and a second stress caused by another component of the ordnance. The internal stress, the first stress, and the second stress are in response to acceleration of the ordnance.
Fragmentation munition with limited explosive force
A fragmentation munition has a fragmentation canister containing preformed fragments, and an explosive cartridge that fits into a central hole in the fragmentation canister. The explosive cartridge includes an outer shell, and an explosive within the outer shell. The munition may be configured to precisely deliver fragments to a relatively small area, such as an area that is a few meters in radius. Toward that end the explosive may be configured primarily to rupture the housing and secondarily to spread fragments over a limited area. The main kinetic energy of the fragments is from the acceleration they gain as part of the munition falls from a launcher, such as a carrier aircraft. The dispersed fragments may have a similar downward velocity after controlled dispersal by the explosive, allowing them considerable kinetic energy (considerable penetrating power), but with a precisely controlled dispersal area.

Munition modification kit and method of modifying munition
An existing munition may be modified, using a modification kit, to provide enhanced fragmentation effects. The munition may be enclosed in an airframe, which also contains preformed fragments, and one or more adapters may be used to provide connections through the airframe. The adapters may be used to substitute for types of connectors already on the existing munition. The adapters may include one or more of an adapter for coupling a tail kit to a tail of the munition, an adapter for coupling a nose kit to a nose of the munition, and an adapter for coupling lugs to the munition. The adapters may engage couplers on the munition, and/or may engage the airframe. The modification of the existing munition may transform the existing munition into a fragmentation weapon, for example usable for height-of-burst detonation to spread fragments over a large area.

Low collateral damage bi-modal warhead assembly
A warhead assembly, comprising a cylindrical or conical metal body, having an inner wall with a plurality of channels or grooves extending parallel to a central longitudinal axis. Preformed fragments are inserted in the channels or grooves and a liner with an explosive fill is positioned within the metal body, retaining the preformed fragments in place. The warhead assembly on detonation produces a bimodal distribution of fragments with adequate mass and velocity with optimized mixed fragmentation that defeats or otherwise incapacitates a target or set of targets.

MUNITIONS AND METHODS FOR OPERATING SAME
A warhead includes a gas generator, a plurality of barrels, and a plurality of projectiles. The warhead is configured to selectively actuate the gas generator to generate a pressurized gas that energetically propels the projectiles through and out from the barrels to strike a target.
