Methods and systems for controlling a fueling strategy for internal combustion engines
A method for controlling fuel injection aspects of a fuel system of an internal combustion engine includes determining a fuel injection strategy for each engine cycle including a pilot fuel injection, a main fuel injection, and a dwell time between the pilot and main fuel injections. The method also includes automatically adjusting the dwell time for each engine cycle based on a sensed ambient temperature and ambient pressure associated with the internal combustion engine.
Engine unit
An engine unit includes an engine including a cylinder injection valve that sprays fuel into a combustion chamber and an ignition plug that is able to ignite fuel sprayed from the cylinder injection valve. When expansion stroke injection drive of performing final fuel injection from the cylinder injection valve in an expansion stroke and igniting the fuel using the ignition plug in synchronization with the fuel injection in the expansion stroke is performed, upper and lower limits of an ignition timing are guarded such that the ignition timing is in a predetermined range centered on a final fuel injection start timing at a final determination timing of the ignition timing.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR COORDINATED EXHAUST TEMPERATURE CONTROL WITH ELECTRIC HEATER AND ENGINE
A system includes an aftertreatment system coupled to an engine, a heater, at least one sensor configured to determine an exhaust gas temperature, and a processing circuit. The processing circuit is structured to determine whether the exhaust gas temperature is at or below a predefined threshold temperature; provide a first command to control the heater in response to the exhaust gas temperature being at or below the predefined threshold temperature; selectively provide a second command to increase the exhaust gas temperature; and coordinate the first and second commands, where the first command is provided followed by the second command only if the predefined threshold temperature is not attained by the first command.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR FUEL POST INJECTION TIMING
Methods and systems are provided for fuel post injection for diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration. In one example, a method may include, responsive to a request for generating exotherms in an exhaust system of an engine while combustion is discontinued in at least one cylinder of the engine, injecting fuel into a cylinder within a threshold crank angle range around top dead center (TDC) of a compression stroke of the cylinder and also within the threshold crank angle range around top dead center of an exhaust stroke of the cylinder, the threshold crank angle range extending from no more than 40 crank angle degrees before TDC to no more than 40 crank angle degrees after TDC. In this way, fuel post injections may be injected +/−40 crank angle degrees after TDC of the compression and exhaust strokes to increase exhaust temperature while avoiding wall wetting and oil-in-fuel dilution.
Fuel injection control device
A vehicle includes an exhaust passage including an exhaust cleaner, an engine coupled to the exhaust passage, fuel injection valves, and a control device. The fuel injection valves are respectively provided in cylinders of the engine and inject fuel into the cylinders. The control device performs, after main-injection, post-injection control that causes the fuel injection valves to perform post-injection. The control device determines a fuel injection amount for single-time post-injection performed by each fuel injection valve such that the fuel injection amount for the single-time post-injection is greater than a fuel injection amount when the post-injection is performed in every combustion cycle in all the cylinders. The control device performs the post-injection control such that how many times the post-injection is performed is less than how many times the post-injection is performed in a case in which the post-injection is performed in every combustion cycle in all the cylinders.
METHOD OF CONTROLLING ENGINE, AND ENGINE SYSTEM
A method of controlling an engine is provided, the method including the steps of injecting main fuel by a fuel injector during an intake stroke or a compression stroke, providing a mixture gas containing fuel and air inside a cylinder, applying by an ignition device a high voltage between electrodes of a spark plug at a timing when the mixture gas is not ignited, detecting a parameter related to a current value of an electric-discharge channel generated between the electrodes, determining whether the detected parameter is within a range between a first threshold and a second threshold to determine a flowing state of a vortex inside the cylinder, injecting supplemental fuel by the fuel injector after the main fuel injection when the parameter is determined to be outside the range, and igniting the mixture gas by the ignition device using the spark plug after the supplemental fuel injection.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR ENGINE BRAKING WITH REDUCED NOISE, VIBRATION, AND HARSHNESS
Methods and systems are provided for engine braking in a vehicle. In one example, a method may include, in response to an engine braking request: deactivating fueling to at least one engine cylinder, decreasing an effective flow area of a turbine inlet of a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT), and adjusting an intake valve of the at least one engine cylinder based on a requested braking torque of the engine braking request and the effective flow area of the turbine inlet. In this way, increased exhaust backpressure may be generated to increase engine pumping losses while the intake valve adjustment increases in-cylinder pumping losses, thereby increasing an amount of engine braking torque.
Diesel engine particulate filter regeneration system and methods
Methods and systems for supplying post injection fuel to a two stroke diesel engine are described. In one example, post injection fuel timing is adjusted responsive to an amount of internal residual combustion products in a cylinder so that less post injected fuel may be trapped in the cylinder for a subsequent cycle of the cylinder. The start of post injection fuel timing and the amount of post injection fuel may be adjusted responsive to internal residual in the cylinder.
