The rotor is liquid cooled by working fluid of the pump and the stator is positioned in a dry chamber that is sealed to prevent the working fluid from entering the dry chamber. A heat exchanger is used to cool the stator. An impeller driven by the rotor draws working fluid into the housing through the inlet. The working fluid passes through the heat exchanger to draw heat from the stator before reaching the impeller. The working fluid is discharged from the housing through the outlet by the impeller.

A bi-metal variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) vane includes a structural, airfoil-shaped flag portion, and a functional, cylindrically-shaped shaft portion connected to the flag portion. The flag portion and the shaft portion are formed of a first metal alloy, and the shaft portion further includes a surface area formed of a second metal alloy different from the first metal alloy.

A high speed electric blower is provided. A rotor assembly of the blower has a bearing, a moving impeller and a magnetic ring. A housing of the blower has a bearing chamber. The diameter of the magnetic ring is smaller than the diameter of the bearing chamber. The magnetic ring can pass through the bearing chamber. The moving impeller and the magnetic ring are respectively located at either end of the bearing chamber. The single bearing is located between the moving impeller and the magnetic ring of the rotating shaft.

Plasma actuators are positioned adjacent the walls and are operatively connectable to a source of electricity. The plasma actuators have a first electrode, a second electrode, and a dielectric layer therebetween. The first electrode is upstream of the second electrode. The first electrode is exposed to the flow passage. The second electrode is shielded from the flow passage by the dielectric layer. The plasma actuators are operable to generate an electric field through the dielectric layer. The plasma actuators are located closer to inlets of the flow passage than to outlets of the flow passages. A method of operating the compressor is disclosed.

A plurality of ribs within the space have a curvature along at least a portion of a length of the ribs that changes a direction of fluid flow within the space such that the fluid flows downstream of the curvature in a direction parallel to a longitudinal axis of the housing.
