FIXED CONSTANT VELOCITY UNIVERSAL JOINT AND METHOD FOR ASSEMBLING FIXED CONSTANT VELOCITY UNIVERSAL JOINT
20180106296 · 2018-04-19 ·

A fixed type constant velocity universal joint includes an outer joint member including a cup section and a hollow shaft section, an inner joint member having a radially inner hole to allow one end of a shaft to be coupled thereto, and torque transmitting balls arranged in ball tracks formed of pairs of track grooves of the outer and inner joint members. The universal joint also includes a cage interposed between a radially inner surface of the outer joint member and a radially outer surface of the inner joint member and configured to retain the torque transmitting balls, and a stopper that regulates a maximum operating angle. The stopper is inserted into the hollow shaft section until the universal joint is mounted to a joint mounting device after the torque transmitting balls are incorporated and then the shaft is mounted to the universal joint.

ARTICULATED SHAFT HAVING AN AXIAL SECURING MEANS

The articulated shaft has an axial securing means which includes a securing ring which has a spring prestress and acts on the articulated shaft via a connecting device of the articulated shaft to a housing cover of a joint housing. It is provided, in particular, that the housing cover is made of aluminum, on which a bearing disk made from steel lies which supports the prestressed securing ring on the outer side. This arrangement avoids it being possible for the securing ring to bury itself into the housing cover made from aluminum and a greater play being produced and the axial securing action no longer being ensured.

DRIVESHAFT WITH VENTED CV JOINT

A driveshaft includes a shaft defining a passageway and a constant velocity joint defining an interior and having a cover defining a hole. A grommet is disposed in the hole and defines a fluid passage into the interior. The CV joint is coupled to the shaft such that the shaft is disposed against the grommet with the passageway and the fluid passage in fluid communication to vent air from the interior into the passageway.

CV joint gasket

A constant velocity joint includes a body, a cup, an annular array of bolts, and an annular gasket. The body has a first planar surface. The cup has a second planar surface positioned adjacent the first planar surface. The annular array of bolts interconnects the cup and body. The annular gasket is interposed between the planar surfaces of the cup and the body. The gasket has a plurality of notches defined on an outer perimeter of the gasket sized to receive the array of bolts. The notches are spaced adjacent to a corresponding bolt and define an open space between the planar surfaces around a bolt periphery. The open space enables thread-locking fluid to escape without causing displacement of the gasket or separation of the planar surfaces. A method of transmitting torque through a CV joint is also contemplated.

CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT ASSEMBLY

A constant velocity joint assembly (20) includes an outer race (22) having a plurality of outer tracks (42) formed in an inner surface thereof and an inner race having a plurality of inner tracks (54) formed in an outer surface thereof. A cage (26) is disposed between the inner race and the outer race. A plurality of torque transferring elements (28) are disposed in the cage. Each torque transferring element contacts one of the outer tracks of the plurality of outer tracks and one of the inner tracks of the plurality of inner tracks. A drive sleeve (30) is separated from the plurality of torque transferring elements by the inner race. Also, the drive sleeve is in driving engagement with the inner race. A stopper portion (74) is attached to the drive sleeve. The stopper portion comprising a portion that reduces in thickness toward an outer end thereof.

Fixed-type constant velocity universal joint

A fixed type constant velocity universal joint includes an outer joint member, an inner joint member, eight balls, and a cage. The fixed type constant velocity universal joint has a ball retaining mechanism. A ratio of an axial length from a joint center to an opening-side end surface of the outer joint member to a diameter of each of the balls is within a range of 0.35 to 0.52. A ratio of a width of the cage to the diameter of each of the balls is within a range of 1.63 to 1.80. The ball retaining mechanism includes a cylindrical shaft portion at an end portion of a shaft and an angle restriction stopper surface of the outer joint member.

A constant velocity joint includes: an outer race provided with a through-hole extending along a longitudinal axis and forming a plurality of outer ball grooves; an inner race forming a plurality of inner ball grooves that respectively pair with the outer ball grooves; a plurality of balls that are respectively positioned within a space formed by the pair of the outer ball grooves and the internal ball grooves; a ball cage that accommodates the plurality of balls; and a grease retainer coupled to the outer race to prevent grease, which fills a space where the ball and the ball cage are placed, from leaking through the through-hole. The grease retainer has a convex shape protruding towards the ball and the ball cage.
