A rake includes a first unit of a plurality of tines and a second unit of a plurality of overlaying rod arms. For each rake tine there is a corresponding overlaying tine. At the end of each overlaying rod arm is a ring the opening through which each corresponding rake tine runs through. The overlaying tines are secured to a sliding member which itself is slidably engages a pole. Lateral movement of the sliding member effects a corresponding lateral movement of the overlaying rod arms along the length of each tine.

The handle, in some aspects, is ergonomically provided to accommodate a variety of grips during use that facilitate manipulation of the hand rakepan as a hand tool using only a single hand. Likewise, in certain aspects, the head of hand rakepan has one or more grooves and notches to provide various grip's to be used during one-handed manipulation of the hand rakepan during raking, collecting, and transporting.

A head assembly for a rake is provided. The head assembly includes a base portion, a handle coupling, and a number of tines. Each tine includes an elongated body. Each tine body includes a first end, a flexure portion, an offset portion, and a distal second end. The tines includes a first set of tines and a second set of tines. A number of tine bodies in the first set of tines have an offset portion lateral cross-sectional aspect ratio that is greater than 1.0. A number of tine bodies in the second set of tines have an offset portion lateral cross-sectional aspect ratio that is less than 1.0.

A leaf rake includes a handle having an elongated body with a first end, a medial portion, and a second end, and a head assembly including a base portion and a handle coupling, the handle coupled to the head assembly by the handle coupling. The head assembly includes a first and a second set of tines unitary with the base portion, wherein each tine of the first and second set of tines includes an elongated body having a first end, an offset portion, and a distal second end, wherein the offset portion of the first set of tines is disposed on a first side of the base portion and wherein the offset portion of the second set of tines is disposed on the first side of the base portion. A shrub rake including a coupling, a base portion and a number of tines is selectively coupled to the head assembly.

Hand tools having a hand guard for protecting a user's working hand are provided. In one embodiment, the hand tool may be a hand rake that includes a rake body having a proximal end and an opposite distal end and including a handle portion and a rake portion. The handle portion may extend from the proximal end of the rake body and include a finger opening configured to receive a user's fingers therethrough. The rake portion may extend from the distal end of the rake body to the handle portion and include a plurality of tines. A hand guard may be attached to the rake body and positioned over a top surface of the handle portion and may include a plurality of walls defining an interior space configured to receive the user's hand therein. In other embodiments, the hand tool may be a grabber or a paint roller.

A wheeled garden raking and thatching tool that can be used with one hand is disclosed. The subject invention uses the weight of the tool with the wheel assembly raised to focus downward pressure onto the rake heads to maximize the utility of the raking action over a large area with minimal applied force while using only one-hand. Additionally, the garden tool of the present invention stands on its own to eliminate the need to bend over to pick up the tool in between use.
