Whitened tobacco composition
A method of preparing a whitened tobacco material is provided, the method including the steps of (i) extracting a tobacco material with an aqueous solution to give a tobacco pulp and a tobacco extract; (ii) treating the tobacco pulp with at least one of a caustic reagent and an oxidizing agent for a time and at a temperature sufficient to lighten the color of the tobacco pulp to give a whitened tobacco pulp; (iii) clarifying the tobacco extract to remove higher molecular weight components; and (iv) combining the whitened tobacco pulp with a clarified tobacco extract to form a whitened tobacco material. The whitened tobacco material can be isolated and incorporated into a smokeless tobacco product. The invention also provides a smokeless tobacco product incorporating a whitened tobacco material. The smokeless tobacco product may be a snus-type formulation contained within a sealed pouch.

ALKALINE INTRAORAL PRODUCTS
There is provided an intraoral composition comprising an alkaline active pharmaceutical agent, or a salt thereof, and a chemically bonded ceramic system formed from a substance selected from the group consisting of calcium aluminates, calcium silicates, calcium phosphates and mixtures thereof. The intraoral composition may be held in the mouth where it releases the alkaline active pharmaceutical agent and contributes to providing an environment that facilitates uptake into the blood stream. Active pharmaceutical agents of particular interest include nicotine and opioid analgesics.
BEADED TOBACCO MATERIAL AND RELATED METHOD OF MANUFACTURE
The disclosure provides a product including a plurality of beads configured for oral use, the plurality of beads containing bleached plant material, a filler, a binder, water, and at least one flavoring agent, active ingredient, or a combination thereof. Further provided are pouched products including the plurality of beads, and a process for preparing the beads.
AGGLOMERATED BOTANICAL MATERIAL FOR ORAL PRODUCTS
The disclosure provides methods of preparing agglomerated botanical materials and associated oral products including such agglomerated botanical materials. Some aspects of the disclosure provide methods for preparing an agglomerated botanical material, which include combining botanical particle fines having an average particle size of about 300 microns or less with a binding agent, forming agglomerated botanical particles from the combined botanical particle fines and binding agent, and optionally, treating the agglomerated botanical particles to increase water stability.
Immobilized diluents for smoking articles
Immobilized diluents in a smoking article are provided, wherein diluents can be immobilized through absorption and/or adsorption of the diluents into immobilizing materials, such as sorbents like silica gels. By immobilizing diluents, the diluents can be available for vaporization, while still being protected from migration and/or loss of the diluents in a smoking article.
Polysaccharide-Based Tobacco Gel Compositions
Compositions include an aqueous polysaccharide-based gellant system including a polysaccharide and a gel modifier, and a tobacco material. Other compositions include a cellulose matrix, a tobacco material, and a water-soluble polymer. Still other compositions include an alginate, a tobacco material, and an alginate crosslinker. These compositions may be placed in a cartridge for use in a device for delivering nicotine to a user.

Alternative methods for whitening tobacco
The present disclosure provides a method of preparing whitened tobacco composition including chemically pulping a tobacco material to form a tobacco pulp, extracting the tobacco pulp with an extraction solution, treating the tobacco pulp with a solution comprising an oxidizing agent for a time and at a temperature sufficient to lighten the color of the tobacco pulp to give a whitened tobacco pulp, and drying the whitened tobacco pulp to provide the whitened tobacco composition. Alternative bleaching processes and treatment methods effective for preparing whitened tobacco compositions are also provided herein.
