The disclosure provides compositions and products configured for oral use, the compositions and products including a filler material, an active ingredient, and a salt component. The salt component may be present in an amount of between about 3.0% and about 4.5% by weight based on the total weight of the composition. The compositions and products as described herein may particularly exhibit a desired flavor profile.

The compositions include one or more fillers, including a sugar alcohol, and optionally, a lipid or binder. The compositions may be in chewable, tablet, or meltable forms.

TREATMENT OF TOBACCO

Methods of fermenting a tobacco material and methods of modifying the total bacterial content of a tobacco material are provided herein. One example method includes treating a tobacco material with superheated steam in a pressurized vessel to provide a steam-treated tobacco material having a reduced total bacteria content and fermenting the steam-treated tobacco material in the presence of one or more microorganisms to provide a fermented tobacco material. In some embodiments, the methods provided herein can provide a fermented tobacco material having a tobacco-specific nitrosamine content that is reduced relative to a fermented tobacco material that has not been subjected to the disclosed method steps and/or a modified flavor or aroma profile relative to a fermented tobacco material that has not been subjected to the disclosed method steps.

TREATMENT OF TOBACCO

Methods of fermenting a tobacco material and methods of modifying the total bacterial content of a tobacco material are provided herein. One example method includes treating a tobacco material with superheated steam in a pressurized vessel to provide a steam-treated tobacco material having a reduced total bacteria content and fermenting the steam-treated tobacco material in the presence of one or more microorganisms to provide a fermented tobacco material. In some embodiments, the methods provided herein can provide a fermented tobacco material having a tobacco-specific nitrosamine content that is reduced relative to a fermented tobacco material that has not been subjected to the disclosed method steps and/or a modified flavor or aroma profile relative to a fermented tobacco material that has not been subjected to the disclosed method steps.

A homogenised botanical material is provided, including a particulate plant material, a content of which is greater than or equal to about 60% by weight, on a dry weight basis; an aerosol former; and a basic pH modifier having a solubility in water of less than or equal to about 0.1 g/100 mL water at 20° C. and 1 atm, the basic pH modifier including one or more basic inorganic salts selected from the group consisting of: alkaline earth metal hydrogen carbonates, alkaline earth metal hydroxides, and alkaline earth metal phosphates.
