A method and an apparatus (1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E) for axial centering of a rod-like article (3) or a group of rod-like articles wherein the rod-like article (3) or the group of rod-like articles is conveyed in a flute (4) situated on the circumference of a drum conveyor (5), moreover, the rod-like article (3) or the group of rod-like articles in the successive flutes (4) have the same or varying length, with the apparatus (1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E) being provided with pusher elements (10, 13, 20, 23, 30, 33, 40, 43) of a shifting mechanism axially acting on the rod-like article (3) or the group of rod-like articles so as to change the position of the rod-like article (3) or the groups of articles in the flute (4), characterized in that the coupled pusher elements (10, 13, 20, 23, 30, 33, 40, 43) make swinging movements having opposite senses, moreover, the pusher elements (10, 13, 20, 23, 30, 33, 40, 43) have contact surfaces (10A, 13A, 20A, 23A, 30A, 33A, 40A, 43A) adapted to axially act on the rod-like article (3) or the group of rod-like articles, the contact surfaces (10A, 13A, 20A, 23A, 30A, 33A, 40A, 43A) of the pusher elements (10, 13, 20, 23, 30, 33, 40, 43) being convergently positioned in the direction of movement (T) of the rod-like articles, at least one pusher element (10, 13, 20, 23, 30, 33, 40, 43) being connected with a dynamic element (6, 26, 37, 47) placing the pusher elements (10, 13, 20, 23, 30, 33, 40, 43) in a position enabling them to axially act on the rod-like articles (3, 3L, 3R) or the groups of rod-like articles conveyed on the drum conveyor (5) so that the centers of the rod-like articles (3) or the groups of rod-like articles are positioned principally in a common plane (S, SL, SR).
Transferring apparatus for transferring and method for transferring of rod-like articles of tobacco industry, and apparatus for conversion of configuration of a stream of such articles
The object of the application is a transferring apparatus (1) for transferring of a stream of rod-like articles (40) from an apparatus (100) feeding rod-like articles to an apparatus (200) receiving the rod-like articles in the machines of the tobacco industry, whereas in the feeding apparatus (100) the rod-like articles (40) are conveyed in a first stream (S1) of rod-like articles in which the rod-like articles are arranged in a first configuration, and in the receiving apparatus (200) the rod-like articles (40) are conveyed in a second stream (S2) of rod-like articles in which the rod-like articles (40) are arranged in a second configuration, comprising: a transferring wheel (30); non-slidable lugs (33) situated on the circumference of the transferring wheel (30); a guiding surface (34) to guide the rod-like article, the rod-like articles being conveyed axially, tangentially to the guiding surface (34); characterised by having a slidable lug (22) being slidable relative to the circumference of the transferring wheel (30) by means of a drive mechanism (10) so that the said slidable lug (22) varies its position relative to an adjacent non-slidable lug (33).
Compacting unit and method for the tobacco industry
A compacting unit for the tobacco industry includes a conveyor drum configured to convey groups of segments disposed perpendicularly to the feed direction. A first compactor and a second compactor have a first contact portion and a second contact portion, respectively. The first contact portion and the second contact portion are respectively adapted to be placed in contact with a first axial end and a second axial end of a group of segments in transit in the compacting station. The first contact portion is compliant, preferably elastically compliant, along a longitudinal direction of extension of the groups of segments upon interaction with the first axial end. The second contact portion defines a rigid abutment along the longitudinal direction of extension of the groups of segments suitable for setting a predetermined position for the second axial end.

Embodiments disclosed herein relate to a rolling drum for use in a tobacco industry product manufacturing apparatus. The rolling drum has a peripheral surface configured to carry a collation of rod-shaped articles. The rolling drum comprises a plurality of ridges on the peripheral surface, each ridge comprising a trailing face and a leading face. The rolling drum comprises a plurality of suction holes for retaining the collation of rod-shaped articles. The plurality of suction holes are disposed at the trailing face and the leading face of each of the ridges. Also disclosed is a rolling apparatus comprising such a rolling drum, and a machine for assembling tobacco industry products comprising such an apparatus. Also disclosed is a method of assembling tobacco industry products using such a rolling apparatus or machine.

Embodiments of the invention relate to an apparatus for cutting and arranging rods for use in a tobacco industry product assembly machine. The apparatus comprises a first cutting mechanism for cutting a four-length rod into first and second axially-aligned double-length rods. Each double-length rod has respective remote ends. A positioning mechanism for moving at least one of the first and second double-length rods such that said first and second double-length rods are moved from a first configuration in axial-alignment, to a second configuration in which the first and second double-length rods are out of axial alignment and the axes of the first and second double-length rods are parallel and spaced apart, and the remote ends of said first and second double-length rods are substantially aligned with each other. Also disclosed is a method of cutting and arranging rods for tobacco industry product assembly, and a method of tobacco industry product assembly.

The object of the invention is a feeding apparatus for feeding a single-layer stream of tobacco industry's rod-like articles (2) comprising a first feeding channel (10) adapted to convey the rod-like articles (2) in the form of a mass flow (MF), a second feeding channel (11) provided with a lower conveyor (16), adapted to convey the rod-like articles (2) in the form of the mass flow (MF), whereas the second feeding channel (11) is flow-connected with the first feeding channel (10), a storage container (3) adapted to filling with the rod-like articles (2), flow-connected with the second feeding channel (11), an outlet conveyor (5, 30) provided with a bearing surface (5A, 30A) comprising grooves (23, 31), adapted to take the rod-like articles (2) from the storage container (3) and convey the rod-like articles (2) in the form of a single-layer stream (SF) of rod-like articles (2), characterised in that the bottom of the storage container (3) is formed by the lower conveyor (16) of the second feeding channel (11) and the bearing surface (5A, 30A) of the outlet conveyor (5, 30), and that the second feeding channel (11) is provided with an upper drive element (17, 33) for the mass flow (MF) comprising a bearing surface (17A, 33A) which is at least partially situated convergently to the bearing surface (16A) of the lower conveyor (16) of the second feeding channel (11) in the direction from the first feeding channel (10) to the storage container (3).

An arrangement and method for conveying rod-shaped articles of the tobacco-processing industry. The arrangement conveys article segments of first and second rows disposed side by side in pairs in a transverse axial direction. In a conveying inspection section, at least one conveying member conveys a first row of article segments disposed transversely axially behind each other and conveys a second row of article segments disposed transversely axially behind each other. Moreover, one or two head end inspection devices, preferably optical, are provided for inspecting one or both head ends of the first row of article segments along a conveyor path for the first row of article segments of the first row, and one or two head end inspection device, preferably optical, are provided for inspecting one or both head ends of the second row of article segments along a conveyor path for the second row of article segments.
CONVEYOR AND METHOD OF ALIGNING ROD-SHAPED ARTICLES
A conveyor for aligning rod-shaped articles and including a succession of flutes which are movable along a feed path and which are configured to hold respective rod-shaped articles or groups of rod-shaped articles. For each flute, the conveyor has an abutment portion, disposed at least at one end of the flute to define an abutment surface for one end of the rod-shaped article or group of rod-shaped articles housed in the suction flute. The abutment portion is provided with at least one suction zone to hold the end of the rod-shaped article or group of rod-shaped articles by suction against the abutment portion. The suction zone is defined by a plurality of suction perforations, connected or connectable to a negative pressure source and whose transverse size is, for example, smaller than 1 mm, preferably smaller than 0.8 mm and, still more preferably, smaller than 0.6 mm.
