A garniture device for a machine used in tobacco industry for manufacturing a continuous rod comprising a loose material wrapped with a wrapper. The garniture device has an upper garniture part having forming parts for forming the wrapper around the loose material; a lower garniture part; a garniture duct extending along at least a portion of the lower garniture part; a garniture belt movable in the garniture duct for transporting the wrapper along the garniture duct. The garniture duct further has an inlet part for transforming the garniture belt from a flat configuration into a U-shaped configuration; an outlet part for transforming the garniture belt from the U-shaped configuration into the flat configuration; and a U-shaped part disposed between the inlet part and the outlet part for guiding the garniture belt in the U-shaped configuration.

A smoking article assembly apparatus is disclosed. It comprises a first cutting station configured to cut a filter rod into filter segments, a tipping station configured to join the filter segments to tobacco rods so as to form a smoking article assembly, and a second cutting station configured to cut the smoking article assembly in the region of the filter segments so as to form two smoking articles.

The object of the application is a detachable cutting head for an apparatus for feeding filter segments provided with a drum conveyor having flutes for crosswise movement of filter rods, provided with circular knives situated in knife units mounted in the housing of the head, characterized in that it comprises a housing of the head (8) provided with a reference surface (23) for positioning in the apparatus for feeding filter segments; seatings (20, 21) for positioning the knife units (10) and lead-out channels (25), knife units (10) with circular knives (6), whereas the positioning seatings (20, 21) are situated so that the circular knives (6) do not overlap. Furthermore, the object of the application is a drive apparatus of a cutting head and a method of coupling a cutting head.
TOW HANDLING SYSTEM AND METHOD
A method of operating a filter rod making machine comprising disposing a plurality of stations laterally of the filter making machine, placing a bale of tow at each of the laterally disposed plurality of stations, drawing tow from above each of the placed plurality of bales into the filter rod making machine in succession, and upon depletion of tow from the placed plurality of bales, replacing the depleted plurality of bales as a set. The drawing of tow may include, for each bale, drawing tow from above the respective bale with a station guide operative at the respective, laterally disposed station and drawing the tow transversely from the respective station guide to a machine-based guide adjacent the filter rod making machine. The disclosure also provides associated apparatus, including a system for making a filter rod and a boom assembly of a tow conditioning section of a system for making a filter rod.

The translational transfer means is provided with at least one housing for containing at least one tubular piece and with blowing means operating inside the housing and configured to produce an air cushion by which the tubular piece is transferred translationally outside the housing along its respective axis of extension.
